Of course they will. DVDs and CDs will be out of date in ten years at the pace that technology has been advancing.
13 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 8/19/06 - 4:50:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
yes. and that's when you realise you've gotten old.
13 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Saturday 8/19/06 - 4:54:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
I find that hard to imagine.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 9/1/06 - 5:43:19 PM EST (GMT-5)
probably they will watch movies on a memory card or something like it
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 9/1/06 - 6:15:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
of course they will, and it probably won't even be 2 generations from now. think back to the cell phone you were using 5 years ago and compare it to the one you have now. or, think about listening to a WALKMAN, because there was no such thing as an mp3 player. technology is moving SO fast now.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 9/6/06 - 2:32:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
Sure, of course. Technology is always changing.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Sunday 9/10/06 - 11:51:54 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yep...ever heard of mp3's? They're taking over.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 9/11/06 - 9:06:00 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes they will.
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 10/12/06 - 2:39:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's crazy, but yeah, definetley.
I can't wait to see what happens next in technology.

That sounds about right, looking at things like the Video iPod even now. They'll probably be buying movies from iTunes, downloading them in a couple of minutes like we did with MP3s a few years ago.

It won't take two *generations*, though - two generations ago, people didn't even have video or audio tapes at home! Magnetic audio tape was only *invented* 78 years ago - three generations - and videotape, just 50 years ago: within two generations!

Scary, in a way: in two generations, we've gone from videotape being invented to it becoming obsolete. Never mind laserdisc, kids in 2066 will probably look at 100Gb solid-state video iPods as museum pieces!

Yes. Technology is advancing so fast these days.

isn't global warming suppose to like wipe out the next generation or something.....
13 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Sunday 11/12/06 - 2:58:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
yeah , i think they will...i mean i was looking at my mom's old recordds and asked her how you rewind them!!! just think of what the kids from 2 generation will have.....i hope i'm there to see it
13 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Sunday 11/12/06 - 3:01:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
Laser discs? I look at those now and say that!

Well, it'll warm them up by around one degree, and their water levels may be a few millimeters, or even centimeters, higher... not exactly 'wiped out' though.

TWO generations? With the rate at which technology has been advancing, I'm guessing kids ONE generation from now will be all bewildered by those old-fangled DVDs and CDs.
13 yrs ago - Thursday 12/28/06 - 3:14:49 AM EST (GMT-5)
Probably.
13 yrs ago - Sunday 1/21/07 - 1:10:52 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think they'll be laughing at us saying "You used to buy movies?!"
13 yrs ago - Sunday 1/21/07 - 12:49:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes they will. I used to say that to older people about eight tracks.
12 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 3/6/07 - 7:08:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
Ya, probably they will have little micro chips they use for DVDs and CDs

Me neither. I love that sorta thing.
12 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 6/18/07 - 1:13:34 AM EST (GMT-5)
It already happens. I'm only 20 and I was talking to a girl who was about 13 and I told her that I used to buy cassettes and got really excited when we got a CD player in the living room and she seemed to think that was amazing. That's only seven years.
12 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Friday 8/17/07 - 4:55:49 PM EST (GMT-5)
it happened to floppy disc's so i cant imagine that things would be different for CD's and DVD's

Laserdiscs, mentioned in the question, are already long gone; the replacements for CDs and DVDs are already on the market (downloads and Super Audio CDs, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD respectively).

In fact, 11 months ago I posted about '100Gb solid state video iPods', imaginary at the time - last week, Apple launched solid state video iPods, as well as the facility for your iPod to buy music wirelessly without a computer involved!

Give it a few more years, we could end up buying everything by digital transfer like that, and kids would look at us buying a physical object for the movie it contains in the way we would at buying a container of electricity!

LOL. You bet they will. I still break out the 8 track player for a goof sometimes. My nephews thin I'm lost in time. It's great. Atleast now they know what it is if it ever comes up in conversation.
