We don't even come into the world knowing how to speak, so how would we know how to do it effectively or compassionately?

All people have natural inclinations for certain things (communicating, athletic ability, playing an instrument and so on), so some people are more naturally talented at communicating, while others have to work harder at it. Although, I think generally speaking most people have different communication styles, so anytime you're getting to know someone new you have to work on your communication skills.
