Is the only difference between a rut and a grave the depth?

A rut as in like a ditch?

A grave is almost rectangular. I've never seen a rut like that...

One can get stuck in a rut and with help, either intrinsic or extrinsic find one's way out of it.

Once in a grave, things tend to be rather final.
