No, you don't HAVE to, but, assuming it wasn't an extremely messy divorce, it would be good to go, simply as a mark of respect because of the years/months lived together.

You never HAVE to go to any funeral.

Not but I think that since you've been married to them for some time you should go to their funeral.

i agree with davew

No, but I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

Of course you don't have to. I probably would though, particularly if we had children.

Of course you don't have to. As stated above, it depends on the divorce and your current situation.

Me personally? I would.

I recently went to my ex-step-grandfather's funeral. But I don't go to funerals because of who died - they don't care if I'm there or not. I go because of who lived. My half sister, in this case. It was her grandfather.

i like that. funerals are for the living anyway
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Wednesday 8/23/06 - 6:17:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
i would go to it, but i would stay in the back, trying to avoid a lot of attention
13 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Wednesday 8/23/06 - 6:22:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
That depends. I'd think about how the family would take it. I mean if you're all over the split and you're on reasonably friendly terms with the family then I personally would go. However if you being there is going to cause more upset (and possible conflict) then it's best to stay away I think.

NO. I would not go to an ex's funeral.
13 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 9/19/06 - 4:41:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think that would depend on your relationship with them and their family.

Except your own.

I hope never to have an *ex*-wife, but if I do, she would probably also be the mother of my 2 children. I'd go for them, if for no one else.

I think it depends on the relationship. After my parents divorced they remained on friendly terms and we still do things as a huge extended family with their new spouses. In their case, I think if one of them died the other would definitely go.

But some divorces are really nasty, and having someone go to a funeral when they are full of hatred or bitter feelings might not be such a great thing.

I get along with my ex better now than when we were together and we do things together all the time. I would definitly go to his funeral. If not for my daughters sake then definitly for mine. If you hate your ex dont go nobody would want you there anyway.

Not if you die first!

If the deceased and I shared children and we didn't get along or anything, I would go for the kids.

Really, it depends on how messy the divorce was.

13 yrs ago - Friday 12/8/06 - 2:16:29 AM EST (GMT-5)
Of course you don't HAVE to go but I think it would be appreciated if you did.
However, if the divorce was a messy one that could be an exception.
13 yrs ago - Friday 12/8/06 - 10:05:14 AM EST (GMT-5)
It's not required to.
13 yrs ago - Friday 12/8/06 - 9:42:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would and I feel there is nothing wrong with that. There should not be any hate even after the divorce...maybe it is for the best for everyone that a divorce has to happen.

I would go to my ex's funeral, unless my doing so would be offensive to his present family.

My mother wanted to go to her ex-mother-in-laws funeral, but was told (incorrectly, by my sister-in-law) that my father would object. In fact, my father did not object, and he was happy to see her at the cemetary for the burial.

13 yrs ago - Saturday 12/9/06 - 4:58:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't plan on being at mine. This body may be there, but the part that is me, will be long gone.
13 yrs ago - Saturday 12/9/06 - 5:06:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would do it mainly because he's the father of my children. Just as we attended my ex-mother in laws funeral.
