Meditation doesn't involve corespondence with a higher being...

Trough meditation you can alter brainwaves. This doesn't happen with prayer.

Meditation is deep thinking.. even more than deep thinking, prayer is more so a one sided conversation.

Yes, meditation is better.

In school, I was taught that meditation can be a form of prayer.

Meditation doesn't have to be spiritual, though it can be. I've never heard of atheists praying, but many meditate.

I think if you're religious, the difference is that praying is talking, meditation is listening.

They are both ways of getting you closer to something, whether it is God, or the world around you.

I think they are about the same in meaning but meditation requires a more calming meaning-its more relaxing

Yeah, if you do it for your whole life you can get real life super powers. I saw this one guy on the Discovery channel that meditated his whole life and now he can actually control, move and alter energy. Also, one of the first stages gives you the ability to control everything in your body.
There was a group of them with that power and they went on these snowy mountains and put a wet blanket on them without a shirt on and they were able to change their body heat making them get hot, actually drying the blankets and keeping them warm.

I may be Christian but hell, meditation sounds a whole lot cooler than prayer!

Well, yes. That's why there are two different words for them.

Prayer involves words, whether you say them out loud, or to yourself. Meditation is blocking everything out, and relaxing.

as different as apples and oranges
13 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Saturday 4/14/07 - 12:57:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
i think basically that prayer is a communication with god, meditation is a communication with yourself.

Actually it does. Some people channel higher beings like guides and angels who speak through that person.

You mean Pakistan isn't a chewy bit of chocolate covered caramel?

To answer the question, I think they have similarities.

You can still meditate on the Lord, it says so in the Bible.

I agree with this. During bible study if I had a question the teacher would say to "meditate upon it" and that meant for me to put some real thought into it.

Prayer is talking with your imaginary friends, while meditation is calming and gets you in touch with your inner chi.

...Or something.
