That's a dumb reason. And we can't just 'make Mexico the 51st state'. It'd be like asking Canada to become a 51st state.

I don't believe Mexico wants to be made part of the United States - which should certainly be part of the equasion. Also, Mexico is already made up of a number of states - IF Mexico and the US decided to join up, I'm sure Mexico would become more than just one US state. (Or, that the US would become more than just one Mexican state.)

What it isn't the 51st state already!? Someone should tell Vicente Fox because he speaks like he has a right to dictate U.S. policy.

According to Israel, they are the 51st state - and we don't dictate Australian policy any more than any other country. Nobody cares about Australia politically.

Because you assume that if I think Mexico is wrong in threatening America with lawsuits I'll be okay with America trying to dictate Australian policy? Or you just wanted a chance to bash America?

Nobody cares about Australia politically. | Just because you don't know anything about Australian politics or that Australia is relatively insignificant in global politics, doesn't detract by the huge influence the U.S has on decisions within the Australian government. The Australian government has followed U.S policy on virtually every issue for many years now. It's gotten so rediculous that The Prime Minister virtually waits for what the U.S says about an issue before even making a comment. The world's superpower has huge influence ecenomic and otherwise on most countries around the world.

A throw away comment but pretty accurate. Whether it's "bashing America"? well I wouldn't put it that way. I just thought it was an interesting sidenote. Some people cry "America bashing" when anybody says anything that could be deemed critical of the U.S in anyway. It's Weak. It wasn't an integral part of the main conversation but I didn't think YT members were so pedantic that we have to stick strictly to topic. It's not a damn exam question.

Sorry. Ever since joining YT I have become increasingly sensitive to criticism of America since a lot of it seems to be insults rather than criticism. The same people state that "not all Muslims are terrorists" remain silent when "Americans are all..." or "America is so..." comments are made. That isn't to say that your comment isn't with out a basis. The U.S. may very well be guilty of trying to dictate Australian policy; personally, I don't know, but I think that would be wrong. However, I would imagine the circumstances are a bit different. Vicente Fox has threatened to sue America if it sends the National Guard to help guard the border; and he has spent a lot of money on PR in America to promote illegal immigrants.

I've noticed that too and it's very hypocritical. An easy mistake to make but quite a distorted way of thinking. So your sensitivity is understandable. Personally, I agree that the Mexican president is being pretty silly on the issue and I don't blame anyone for being angry with him. My comment really wasn't an attack on you or support of the Mexican president on the issue. It was just an unimportant side comment I thought of at the time. And it wasn't a direct comparison to this situation between the U.S and Mexico. In our case it's just as much our prime minister's fault as Bush's,
