I am full of passion and intensity, I don't know what I would do if I were one of those idiots who is all calm about everything and never giving a damn. I'd much rather be the way I am.

detachment is not about not caring.

The latter option sounds happier.

A life of "passion and intensity" can include unhealthy lifestyles.

Detatchment is worse than death, it's being a living corpose basically. Inner peace sounds horribly dull as well, if you don't live life with passion you might as well not live at all, life is all we have, and people should live to the fullest, not sit around breathing quietly 15 hours a day.

I'm not judging your opinion. But I wish I could ask you again in 20 years.
That's what I'm going through.

I would like a life of both!

"Detatchment is worse than death, it's being a living corpose basically."

Detachment does not mean detachment from emotions, or detachment from life. When you are at peace with yourself, you are utterly connected and immersed into everything around you. You just do not depend on the circumstance of everything around you to determine how happy you are. There's a good expression for that; 'you are in the world, but not of the world'. You no longer crave *things*. You are at peace by simply being alive, and then can enjoy things without worrying about them.

I did the overly passionate thing when I was younger, I was extremely emotional and let my feelings control me.
Now I seem to be pleasently detatched and it's working out much better, and I no longer have ulcers.

Kitner, I couldn't have said it better myself!

11 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 6/26/06 - 4:53:45 AM EST (GMT-5)
Alongside Kitner's description of it, I enjoy just being there and living. I try not to strive so much for small things in life. I'm not full of passion, that'd make me angry if I couldn't do something right.

I find passion and intensity seriously overrated, i would much rather have the latter. Inner peace sounds great.

Passion, intensity, drama.. I love it. Life is for living, and I intend to live it to it's fullest.
11 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Monday 9/4/06 - 6:24:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
I've done both, and moderation seems to be key.
11 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Monday 9/4/06 - 7:15:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think living both is possible. With detachment and inner peace, passion and intensity is most heightened and uncluttered.
11 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 9/20/06 - 8:35:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
Passion.
10 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 1/23/07 - 8:24:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd like to have both in my life. Passion can drive a person towards pushing themselves to make a dream/wish come true.
10 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 2/4/07 - 9:42:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
I need the passion. I get so restless with inner peace.
10 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 2/4/07 - 9:44:19 PM EST (GMT-5)
A mix of both can be lovely.

too much of either can not be all too fun.

10 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 2/4/07 - 9:45:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'm a laid back person. Detatchment please + inner peace please.
10 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 2/4/07 - 9:46:23 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd go with the inner peace. A life of nervous tension has beaten me down.
10 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 2/5/07 - 12:08:30 AM EST (GMT-5)
Life of passion. I care about other people too.
10 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Saturday 3/3/07 - 9:38:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd prefer inner peace to outer peace. If you want to call it that.
10 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Saturday 3/3/07 - 9:40:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
What's life without turmoil and intense emotions?
10 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 7/19/07 - 12:45:47 AM EST (GMT-5)
I'm a fairly laid back, passive person, but I don't think life is worth living if there isn't a little risk and a little pain.
10 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Wednesday 8/1/07 - 7:16:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
Ill assume by the photo on the right your refering to buddhism...

Detachment in that sense is definately better than passion, as they tend to break the "chains of desire", where things that cause people suffering due to greed and desire, mean nothing to them.

For example, for a male buddhist monk who has reached Nirvana, looking at a beautiful naked woman would be no different than looking at a tree, it would mean nothing to him, there would be no desire to have her, thus no suffering if he wasnt able to have her.

With this mentality, money, sex, love, power, ect, all become completely unimportant in life, they learn to enjoy other things in life that don't involve wanting anything, they can be happy with just living. That sounds much better than living in passion.
