Yes. I'd also feed my daughter birth-control every morning from the first day she gets her period.

Yes, because if he is asking, there is obviously a reason, and telling him to wait is like telling the pope to stop praying.

Yep, I agree. Stir it into her coffee. Or whatever she has for breakfast.

I would never ask my parents to purchase condoms for me (I would be disowned), and I would be reluctant to purchase condoms for my child because I really don't think I should *have* to.

If they're old enough and mature enough to have sex, why can't they buy their own condoms?

Many places will not sell them to people under 18.

^ I never had that problem and have never been carded for buying condoms.

I suppose so. I'd be supportive. But, confused. I would think it would be much more uncomfortable about asking me for them than buying them themselves.

7 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Friday 4/7/06 - 8:36:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
If I WAS a parent, we'd have a LONG talk first.

I think my parents would buy them for me if I asked. At least my mom would.

7 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Friday 4/7/06 - 8:37:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
I wouldn't refuse and let them have sex without protection.

Did I say ALL places? I said MANY places.
Particularly in the Bible Belt states.

I would try to get my kid to stop being a punk and buy his own damn condoms. While I would be happy that he trusts me enough to confide in something that is very personal and embarassing, I would be far more proud if he took the initiative and bought his own condoms like a man.

That being said, him coming to me is better than him punking out completely and getting a girl pregnant.

I would take him with me, and show him that buying condoms isn't some scary thing, that he needs to step up and do it himself later on.

im pretty sure this is a multiple.
7 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Saturday 4/8/06 - 10:42:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
I hope my kid knows where to get some birth-controll, but on the off chance that they didn't, yes, if they asked, I would provide them with it.
7 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 4/10/06 - 6:45:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
First i would have a chat, and make sure my son/daughter knew exactly what they where letting themselves in for. After which i would say i was proud of them for taking procutions, and also having the balls to ask me. I would then purchase them and let their use begin. Simply put if i said no, they would probably do it anyway without protection, and at least i know what is happening and that they know what they are getting into.

Would you buy your daughter condoms (assuming that you have a daughter)?

7 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 4/10/06 - 6:53:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
amy, that's really question I would never want to consider, I know it's ignorant, and sexist, and total double standard, but I just can't see myself being supportive of my daughter having sex. In fact, I would probably kill her boyfriend knowing that they were about to do it.

In all honesty though, after my hypothetical wife explained the situation and I knew that they were making a smart decision, yeah, I would buy them for her, educate her, and tell her to always keep condoms for herself cause you can never trust a guy to buy them himsef(just look at my son!)

7 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 4/10/06 - 7:31:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Hahaha ya, I just find it funny (and endearing) when guys are supportive of the son having sex but get all defensive when its their daughter
7 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 4/10/06 - 7:33:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's actually pretty sad, but it's just the gut reaction we as a culture are conditioned to feel. I think the important thing is to remember that your gut is just responding to ignorant brainwashing, you have to treat your daughter's sexuality with seriouensss, not just protectionism.

And you also have to remember that you can't just be proud and supporting of your son without being extra careful with him like you are with a daughter, you have to make sure he's not making a big mistake either.

Yep. If I was a parent and the kid was between the ages of 12-17 it wouldn't be acceptable for them to have sex anyway. So if they think they're "grown-up" they can buy them themselves, and if they refuse, they can learn what teenage pregnancy is all about.

6 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 5/25/06 - 9:02:12 PM EST (GMT-5)
At this stage of my life I think that if my kid was brave enough to come to me to ask for condoms I would have a chat with them and grant their wish. If they are thinking along those lines then I would rather them have safe sex rather than go unprotected and end up with a pregnancy or an STI.

I know a few people argue that if you are old enough to have sex then you can buy your own but for first timers the concept of buying things like that is both embarrassing and scary (as is buy toilet paper as a kid or female buying her first sanitary items). I think it shows a degree of responsibility by taking steps to be protected. Children and STSs are for life. If you end up with a teenage pregnancy the parent is the one that is going to be awfully involved in the end anyway! If they are thinking condoms then the sex will comes regardless of thier presence.... rather keep it safe.

Besides having them in school is also a bit of a status symbol (used or not ;) )

Why, because your two daughters are promiscuous trollops?
You let them dress like 13 year old whores.

thats silly though, as the legal age is 16. They are making it easier for the child to be born into a home where the chances are that the couple wont stay together.

I'd have a LONG talk with them first.

As long as they were over the age of 16.

Yeah if I had kids this is what I'd do but then I'd take them to the family planning clinic so and wait outside while they talked to them about the best form of contraception for them. If they think they're emotionally mature enough to have sex they should be ok with that. Of course they'd probably hate me but at least I'd be sure they were safe.
6 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 9/14/06 - 8:12:50 PM EST (GMT-5)
no, they can buy their own damn condoms, I'd like to know that they're sexually active and making sure they're making the right choices, but it's not my resposibility to buy my child condoms.
