Is it a sad reflection on our society that something as basic as drinking water is now a bottled, branded consumer product?

Nothing wrong with Brita filters - esp in the cities where its recycled much more.

It does wind me up buying bottled water. But if I'm thirsty and I don't want sugary cr*p, then I do buy it. I think its cool companies making money out of suckers like me.

However, it does get very tragic when you get water snobs - a different type of water for every occasion, every course or every meal. And ok maybe there is a different taste for each brand, they're all processed by different machinery, but to get a kick out of 'develpoing a palette' for that sh*t, are you kidding??

Its sad in the resepct that every aspect of our lives is touched by branding and commercialism....but there are good points. Bottled water is supposedly cleaner and with more minerals. Choice in this day and age is a wonderous gift.

Not really, it's just healthier.

If you guys ever tasted the warter from where I grew up you would kiss the people who process bottled water. Even though I moved to VA the water still sucks. There are places with great tasting free tap water but until I move to one of these places its Deer Park for me

Can you give us a link to these taste tests? I've seen that, on 20/20 - I don't know what tap water they are giving these people, but it's definitely not the tap water from this city

20/20, uh?

In my town, our water is nasty. Sometimes we find things floating in it.

I love capitalism, but this is just a racket. Some cities have bad water and no one's doing anything about it, so...companies take advantage.

The taste of tap water depends on where you live.

In England most of our water comes down from Scotland amd the north, since that's where most of the resevoir's are. This means it's constantly recycled as it moves south, which means it also tastes worse, and it's not as clear.

I don't drink tap water, I'm sure filtered water falls under the catagory because you're paying enough for the filter, and constant money on the replacement filters, you end up spending close to the same amount in the long run. I just don't trust tap water, especially where I'm from. The shower makes your skin dry and blotchy and irritated. I wouldn't want to drink that.

Tap water is free, therefore I like it better than bottled water.

Bottled water; the ultimate in consumer whorism.

Evian (bottle water brand name) spelled backwards is Naive
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 4/21/06 - 2:22:16 AM EST (GMT-5)
I do find it a bit sad. I refuse to buy bottled water unless absolutely necessary and I will continue to use the tap. I will, however, buy a brita filter.

In my area you have to drink bottled water. The water here tastes like a pool.
13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 5/15/06 - 10:13:11 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd rather pay for the bottle.
13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 5/15/06 - 10:19:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
I also have a Brita filter! It saves so much money...

Our tap water doesn't taste so good. If I had the money to throw around, I guess I'd buy bottled. Evian, yeah.
