If it was a close friend or relative, yes. Then again, a few years ago, my best friend got married on a day that I was going to be out of town and could not get out of it. I didn't get her a gift. What a crappy friend I am!

It depends on my relationship with the husband and bride. If we're close yes, if not, I'll keep my money.

The weddings that I don't attend are usually for people who I don't know very well or haven't seen in ages. I usually know we've been invited out politeness or to make up numbers (in a nice way of course). In this case I usually send a really nice card instead of an inability and wish them all the best with my apologies for not being able to attend. I'd never miss the wedding of a very close friend or family member, I'd bend/break schedules in order to be able to attend.

it depends on how much i like the person who invited me. if it were a friend or family member, then yes, but you know how you sometimes get invited to those weddings by those people you don't really know, but who know you somehow? eff that, no gift for them... i think i might buy myself a gift and then say that's where the money went.

Probably, if I like the couple getting married. If I thought someone sent me an invitation knowing I wouldn't go just to get a gift I would not.

Why wouldn't I be able to attend? I'd simply mail myself. Or have a family or friend member mail me, rather. And of course when I got to my destination I'd emerge much to everyone's surprise, with the real gift tucked under my arm.

The question switches between two tenses. It should either be worded as "If you are invited to a wedding but can't attend, do you send a gift?" or "If you were invited to a wedding but couldn't attend, would you send a gift?"

Yes, I probably would. But I suppose it would depend on my relationship with the people getting married.
