The ones I read are either The King James version, New Living Translation or the Contemporary English Version- whichever one is handy when I'm going to youth group.

I read the NIV.

I like the NIV! King James is just too hard to understand sometimes. My pastor before always used the Amplified Version and I liked that one!

Me, too.
KJV is beautiful literature, but I find the NIV more use-friendly.

No, I would recommend the New World Translation. It's easy to understand and translates the old english found in the KJV to mordern english...........at least the common man can now understand the biblical writings.

uh, yeah.
If you are looking for a good English translation, why not try one that used multiple lingual experts from various denominations, as to prevent the spin that might end up in a version, say, put together only by the JWs? I suggest NIV, NAS, NKJV, but many others are suitable.

Either King James or NIV. Depends on which one's closer.

I read the New King James version.

NIV is completely twisted .

I like the KJV. It's just so beautifully written. Plus you get the disputed Shakespeare psalm.

I also read Leo Tolstoy's translation of the four gospels (re-translated into English, of course) and was very touched.

Mine was New Living Translation.
11 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 3/13/06 - 11:54:32 AM EST (GMT-5)
I read and will recomend the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures published by Jehopvah's Witnesses. It's mordern english which is easy to understand by the most common of men.
11 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 3/13/06 - 12:02:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
No. I read and suggest the NEW King James. It's a more modern wording.
11 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 3/13/06 - 12:25:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
I own several versions, but I think the one I usually read is the New Jerusalem Bible...
11 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Sunday 4/30/06 - 5:05:42 PM EST (GMT-5)
I prefer the old king james, its more exact on things, more detail. However, my parents bought me an NIV one, so I read that usually.
11 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 5/13/06 - 2:27:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
The king james one has been edited, he took out everything that he didn't like. it has also been translated at least three different times, so the chance that ur reading what the bible really says is highly unlikely
11 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 5/13/06 - 2:28:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
Whatever I get on the internet.
11 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Saturday 5/13/06 - 2:32:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, for in each new edition, even more translational errors sneak in. I wish I could read the original arameic and Greek texts...

How can you say that? Older and older manuscripts are being found, and each new translation uses the oldest manuscript as the most authoratative. In reality, there isn't enough difference between the manuscripts to get excited about. But if anything, the translations grow closer to the original as time goes on.
