OOh, Old Man's Child. I have that album. Anyway, I think it can. It can change your attitude towards things, and towards people, if it has a very strong effect.

Of course it can, but can you be more specific? Apparently the music you listen too hasn't helped you clarify your ideas.

To give an example - if someone listenes to a lot of NSBM (Nazi Black Metal), then they might become a Nazi themselves. A lot of metal is fairly intelligent (once you get past nu-metal), and doesn't preach hatred or rampant stupidity, so that may influence people. In a broader sense, once you get into it, a lot of people learn to stop dicriminating against other genres, since metal is very often hated and made fun of by fans of other musical genres. Same with classical.

Definitely. Look at how music is used in film to heighten or alter your emotional reaction to what you are seeing. In fact, there have been instances of the same footage of soldiers in WWII being used to show how bad the conditions the soldiers had to live in were(set to sad string music) and also in a propaganda piece about how well the war was going (set to 'rousing' march style music)

i do not know who you all think you are agreeing with music affecting you!!!!!! because it CAN NOT! affect you to change who you are. that is facetious to say music can controll you. are you all saying that people do not have self controll? it might influence you.. but it does not change how you think. this is still more bull steming off of Sir Merilyn Manson and his poetry, and yes some is gory but it does not change you.

No, I don't think music changes the way you think. I think it might change your mood, or encourage you to look at things differently, but I don't think the actual music does that.

Old Man's Child rocks hard. I think music can affect a person and their thoughts. I don't let it affect mine, I am me and think for myself.

I think that the music I listen influences me artistically and provokes my perspectives of a relating problem. I wanna hear Old Man's Child. I never heard them, but I suppose they must be pretty good.

'Can it change how you think?' Do you give any credance for the claim that listening to Mozart actually makes you more intelligent? They say the patterns mimic the brainwaves...even so I have my doubts that this actualy works.

Only the weak willed and weak minded are influenced by such things. The human cattle that walk among us.

Oh definitely, I think some music can be very touching and influence a person emotionally (thereby leading to some intellectual influence).

What a silly question. Can math affect how a person thinks? Can history affect how a person thinks? Of course! This is why a well rounded education is so important.

It can influence your mood or inspire you, but it doesn't change how you think. How you think has more of an influence on what music you listen to than the other way around.

I like how the majority of people say that it can change how a person thinks, but according to another poll on here (I looked for it and I can't find it) you defend music when it's connected with violence (Columbine). If music does change how a person thinks, you can't assume that it always does so positively.

Aside from just the music itself, a lot of people group themselves (especially in school) around music scenes. What sort of music you're into can really impact what friends you have, what group you're in, and what ideas you get exposed to. Cool stuff, music.
