If you teach a child to be polite and courteous, when he grows up will he ever be able to get his car onto the highway or through a 4 way stop?

I beg to differ, jvzuuk... Just look at martial arts. Discipline is one of the key factors to being able to be a great martial artist because anger clouds judgement. But... if it weren't rush hour, they MIGHT make it... (I just got my permit 3 days ago and I'm friggin' paranoid and scared...)

I've very polite but after driving in Chicago for five years you learn that you will never make it unless you are a somewhat aggressive driver.

When Buddy moved to L.A. to go to college at UCLA, he had some trouble getting used to the aggressive driving that must be done if one is ever to make a left turn. (There usually is not a left-turn arrow, so drivers wait until the light turns yellow, or barely red, and then barrell left.) He was used to the San Francisco mode of driving which is much more laid back. Now, he's there with the rest of the L.A. drivers.
