Niether one is a sin.
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 10/5/04 - 11:31:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
^^ Agreed, that's just stupid to call either a "sin"
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 10/6/04 - 12:00:34 AM EST (GMT-5)
I agree with both of them that isn't a sin its a doing.
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 10/6/04 - 11:39:09 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't mean sin as in a Biblical sin, I meant like a societal sin - there's more than one meaning to that word people
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 10/6/04 - 11:49:37 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think they usually run simutanelously together. I person weak in character is usually boring to be around.
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 10/8/04 - 3:32:59 AM EST (GMT-5)
not necessarily, I know lots of interesting people who have no backbone. Strong character isn't as common as it use to be.
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 10/8/04 - 3:36:18 AM EST (GMT-5)
Neither one is a sin, though I think being weak in character is a less desirable trait than is being boring.
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 10/8/04 - 7:18:01 AM EST (GMT-5)
I wouldn't even call these social sins. They are character traits. How can either of these be deemed as unacceptable or wrong by society?
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 10/8/04 - 12:25:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
How can they not? Who likes a boring person or someone that has no spine?
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 10/8/04 - 12:27:39 PM EST (GMT-5)
^ I don't befriend based based on how interesting they are or how strong they are. I befriend people based on common interests.
And neither one is a sin.
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 10/8/04 - 12:28:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
I would guess that having a weak character would imply the presense of one or more deadly sins. It's worse than being boring, which really isn't wrong, just not likable.
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 10/8/04 - 12:33:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
Nightgoddess, you are probably in the minority on that one. I don't think most people would be-friend someone that bored them to death, or someone that they couldn't respect. I can't respect people with weak character. I can be nice to them, but would I have a true friendship with someone that bored the crap out of me or someone I thought was a pussy? Probably not...

i dont think that either of these are sins. this question is flawed.
14 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 1/10/05 - 11:28:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
Boring is in the eye of the beholder, if you're not boring to yourself and you're having a good time that's cool, but being weak in character plain out sucks regardless of anything else.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 4/23/05 - 11:03:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
People week in character are usually boring...
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 5/10/05 - 1:05:32 AM EST (GMT-5)
^^ The Week in Character??

I hate that magazine.

i'd say person who's weak in character. it gives you the impression that they just don't give a damn half the time.
14 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Tuesday 6/7/05 - 7:33:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
when you think about it, there kind of the same thing
6 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Saturday 12/22/12 - 2:35:43 AM EST (GMT-5)
Sins are relative, man.

I agree with this.

Being boring. I can put up with an interesting person that slips once in a while.

Being boring means you're not compatible with me - you might be interesting with/to someone else, but we don't click.

Neither is a sin, as pointed out, but in terms of friendship, weakness isn't necessarily the worst trait.

Of course, if it means someone who is 100% weak in certain ways that mean a lot to me - no moral fibre, convictions, principles, etc, then tbh, I'm not interested in either and both are as bad as each other.

I think boring still is worse, actually - I can anticipate weakness and work round it. Boredom is a lifetime of meh.

Since kiki said societal sin, I think it also depends on your place in society. I can deal with a boring doctor who is morally straight and going to do the right thing. There's a place for that in society.
On the other hand, a used car salesman or television personality who is boring isn't going to have a job for long regardless of their morality.

Weak, for me.
I have a problem with doormat people. I want to shake them.
7 months ago - Monday 5/6/19 - 12:13:26 PM EST (GMT-5)
depends on what you consider as boring. i'd say by most people's standards, my life is pretty average.

weak character, on the other hand, is something that is built up over the years. you don't just come out of the womb and become a doormat, that happens over time. so i'd say being weak in character is the greater sin because you can change yourself for the better, and the sin is refusing to do so.
