depends how you do it. if it's a tacky personal website then yes it's tacky. if it's a tasteful personal website then it's tasteful.

i've been trying to make one for years but i always get it like halfway done before i suddenly decide to change it all and start over from the beginning, which means i never actually finish it and post it publicly. but anyway, all i want to have on it is some of my art and writing. maybe i'll just build a simple minimalist website for that purpose so i can get it posted up before i get sidetracked by a bunch of growing complex ideas i usually do.

My wife and I put together a website with pics of our kid. We haven't posted it publicly. Our parents (who don't live around here) really appreciate it.

Yeah, some are tacky and some aren't. I think it's a great venue to share pictures and news with family and friends, like you said Cow.

Others just annoy me. Maybe it's because my life just isn't all that exciting so a website would be rather useless. :)

I run a personal weblog that I started out for my family that I left behind but is public for anyone and is being read by a small crowd of people that I have never met. I write on there whatever I want to share about my personal life or thoughts. Nothing tacky about that.

depends, if it looks good and has good links its ok but if it is just full of flashing animations and boring pages that go on forever than no.

I think it depends on the content. If it's all about yourself then it's probably tacky.

However, I have a profile on another one where there are links to all my stories...its
"my site" and the one I give people when they ask if I have one. The only thing on there besides my stories are my email addy and some brief facts about how long i've been writing.
