I think that sometimes in email you tend to say things that you wouldn't normally say (which is not necessarily a bad thing), so yes, it is entirely possible.

Depends on the person...some people are better at saying things in writing so they can think it through, others are better saying it.

it definetly gives you alot more confidence to say things you normally would say. Simply because you won't see or know about their reaction til later
