Tough one - I think I am going to go with knowledge though
17 yrs ago - Monday 5/19/03 - 11:18:27 AM EST (GMT-5)
Both. Knowing things makes me happy.
17 yrs ago - Wednesday 5/21/03 - 9:20:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
The search for both never ends. Knowledge would be my choice.

Ignorance is bliss so therefore stupidity will make you happy, or rather have the illusion of happiness. However, with knowledge you will be able to know the true meaning of happiness and realize how to achieve it.

why search? happiness is right around the corner but people always waste time looking elsewhere. as for knowledge, it is good to know, but the more you know, the more you realize you dont know.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 6/26/03 - 1:32:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd be happy to be happy
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 7/2/03 - 2:06:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Happiness can come from knowledge, knowledge would rarely come from happiness.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 7/2/03 - 2:10:29 PM EST (GMT-5)
Knowledge makes me happy, and if you use knowledge right, you can get everything that makes you ahppy while still learning
16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Thursday 8/7/03 - 8:26:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
aaa123 hit the nail on the head. I love to know more, but searching for it doesn't make me as happy as just doing things I like
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 9/9/03 - 5:21:20 AM EST (GMT-5)
I really don't care, but I seek knowledge.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 9/9/03 - 5:27:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
Knowledge is a much more attainable goal than happiness, but i would try and find happiness and pick up knowledge along the way.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Tuesday 9/9/03 - 5:51:11 AM EST (GMT-5)
knowledge is easier to find
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 9/24/03 - 5:11:39 PM EST (GMT-5)
Knowledge can result in happiness, while happiness can only result of knowledge of minor things... though these minor things could be the most importpart bits of knowledge in your life (e.g. feelings, people). So in the end, it really depends on your personality. If you're serious, knowledge will make you happy. If you aren't, chances are you'll be blissfully ignorant. Anyway, I choose happiness. Though I am somewhat serious, I believe that if everyone was on the quest for happiness, better things could be done for mankind and compassion would spread. Not to mention, if everyone was on the quest for knowledge, not only would it be heartless world, genius would become the standard, making everyone's goal in vain. Yes, I'll stop my rant now.

knowledge. I think that happyness is overrated. I think of happyness as a fleeting thing. It provides little security. I'm happy one moment and then next day I could be so depressed that I no longe want to live. knowledge on the other hand only lets you down when you don't have enough of it but it is hard to lose.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 2:31:31 PM EST (GMT-5)
I say happiness. Sometimes too much knowledge is a bad thing.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 2:33:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
but, but, i want BOTH!
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 2:34:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
Happiness comes with knowledge.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 9/25/03 - 2:38:19 PM EST (GMT-5)
I dunno...I think I was happier before I knew all that was involved in a c-section, for example.
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 10/13/03 - 2:20:52 AM EST (GMT-5)
I like both! Can't really decide...
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 10/13/03 - 2:25:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
knowledge. pursuing happiness takes no account of what is true or right. pursuing knowledge, on the other hand, is based entirely around what is true and right. therefore, pursuing knowledge is inherently better in the big scheme of things.

but one would HOPE that pursuing knowledge would indeed lead one directly to true happiness. if that is the case, then knowledge can bring happiness, but can happiness bring knowledge? generally, we can assume that simply being happy does not increase one's knowledge, so there's another reason why pursuing knowledge beats out pursuing happiness: that way, you can theoretically end up getting them both.

16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 10/13/03 - 2:43:15 AM EST (GMT-5)
Happiness...otherwise whats the point of being here? if pursuing knowledge makes you happy then fine, but if it doesnt interest you than do something that makes you happy (within legal and moral boundaries). After all we're only alive such a short while......
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 10/13/03 - 2:53:35 AM EST (GMT-5)
"Happiness...otherwise whats the point of being here?"
--------------------

that question is exactly what you might know the answer to...IF you had been searching for knowledge.

16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Monday 10/13/03 - 7:46:44 AM EST (GMT-5)
Both!
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 10/23/03 - 3:32:43 PM EST (GMT-5)
Hapiness, I think, is more important...
16 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 10/23/03 - 3:47:11 PM EST (GMT-5)
Why not both?

I suppose, though, this is a version of the old question of whether it's better to be an unsatisfied Socrates or a pig satisfied. In that case, one's frame of reference is all-important, and once you've tasted knowledge, you don't want to go back, even if going back entails not knowing what you're missing.
