Not necessarily so.
11 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 3/25/03 - 9:21:18 AM EST (GMT-5)
i really think that no matter how, or even how much, someone is disciplined that if they need the attention, or have issues, they're still going to act out
11 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 3/25/03 - 9:22:57 AM EST (GMT-5)
yes, i don't think our generation understands the concept of being harshly punished for crimes and things of that nature, so people just think they can get away with anything
11 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Tuesday 3/25/03 - 9:32:04 AM EST (GMT-5)
Sure. I know if I put a foot out of line much less do something illegal then, well, I'd be in deep trouble. I grew up knowing that if I crossed the line I'd have my ass tanned for me.

That's a difficult question to answer, because it uses so many factors, including upbringing, culture, and our personalities (studies have shown that we are born with our personalities), and sheer coincidence. I do not think that the question can be answered as worded, because it is not so black and white.

I don't think so (I was answering the question not danman's post)
11 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 3/28/03 - 4:38:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes all the problems in the world are caused by a lack of discipline. See what I mean?
11 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 3/28/03 - 10:54:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
Absolutely. Too many kids are left to raise themselves while both parents work...is it any wonder that they get into trouble?
11 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 3/28/03 - 11:12:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
Absolutely! We have an education system that says it the parents fault for not disciplining. But then it is the same education system that tells the children that they can sue their parents for discipling them. I got suspended from school for saying/thinking that this is wrong. So if children are not allowed to experience consequences for themselves how are they to understand them later? So if a person does not respect the consequences of their own actions...do you really think they are going to respect anyone else? basically what I see in the schools is that they teach the small percentage that is willing to learn and then just make sure the rest understand the 3 personal pronouns & SEX. The prouns I, MY, & ME are taught so they think of themselves because no else is going to. And sex is taught to make sure the school system has job security. It is a sick view, but I call it the way I see it.

some, not all... most are due to the competive nature of man...
11 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 3/29/03 - 11:05:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think so. Read M. Scott Peck's The Road Less Traveled for an understanding of the issue of discipline, which is really putting off certain things to take care of the necessary things now. Society has become fast and has acquired a desire for instant gratification. I think the only place where there might be too much discipline would be in the Army.
11 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Tuesday 4/1/03 - 9:13:09 AM EST (GMT-5)
some of them
11 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 5/23/03 - 11:53:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
many problems - enviornment, war, etc. due to a lack of SELF-discipline.
11 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Saturday 5/24/03 - 12:12:21 AM EST (GMT-5)
Sure, many of them can.
11 yrs ago - Thursday 7/17/03 - 6:16:56 AM EST (GMT-5)
yeah, and most of the lack of discipline come from the parents in the hippie/ baby boomer gens (im not pointing at all of them but alot)
11 yrs ago - Friday 7/18/03 - 10:40:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
yes ppl need to learn self-disipline and self-control. So many of our problems come from ppl wanting what they want and f*** every one else. they can't comprehend that their actions have consequences and everything is somebody elses fault. like the fat kids suing mcdonalds. they have no self control and someone owes them something for it. INSANE!!!!!!!!!!
10 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 8/26/03 - 10:48:29 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think its more likely that they trace back to sin.
10 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 8/28/03 - 4:36:31 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think all problems today are caused by a lack of lobotomies
10 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 8/28/03 - 7:55:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
Most of the problems come from no children no being disciplined. Think about it, about 30-40 years ago when my parents were being raised they had to face major consequences for their actions and because of that they knew later in life that it was not accepted. Now however when children are not being disciplined they are acting out at a very early age, when you were 12 years old how many of you were having sex or doing drugs or cussing even. Have you looked at todays youth and noticed how much they do it?
10 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Saturday 8/30/03 - 4:29:19 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think I would consider myself one of 'todays youth,' and I've never seen or heard of anyone doing drugs or having sex at my school, though they do cuss like sailors.
10 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Saturday 8/30/03 - 9:55:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
In some instances, but its not the only issue
10 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 8/31/03 - 4:31:28 AM EST (GMT-5)
Almost anything can be.
10 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 8/31/03 - 2:11:14 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, but almost all the problems can be traced back to flawed human nature. Some can be traced to discipline, but not all. I hate to ruin your views, everyone, but on the "problems" with teens... It is in their nature (for most of them) to rebel against their parents in some way or another. No amount of discipline can change this fact. Think back to, say, 1920. Flappers. Fast forward. 1950. Elvis. 1960. Hippies. And so on and so on... Discipline would have been a problem in hindering social progression in such instances, had it worked.
