Someone's been watching Ocean's Eleven. Anyway, unfortunately Monet has the stigma of college art. I don't really like him anyway. Too meek and murky, on average. Manet is okay. I like these two: Argenteuil And I forget what this one is called.

It depends on my mood, but I have a history with Monet. And, actually, Manet didn't 'associate himself' with the impressionists. That is to say, he didn't refer to himself as one; they were all quite close 'n cozy. But, Manet used black, which is, like, a definite impressionist no-no, so to speak.

Actually, I thought of the question because of the most recent issue of Mental Floss (though I did get the syphillis thing from ocean's eleven ) Yes it is true that Edouard Manet did not want to be associated with impressionism, but it is nevertheless believed that he laid the groundwork for the movement, though Claude Monet perfected it. Monet's paintings tend to be dabs working together to make a bigger picture, usually a landscape; Manet's are usually loosely painted naked parisans. They were actually close friends and admirers of each other's work.

Monet, but I'm not a huge fan of either...I pass and move on to post-impressionism and Bauhaus. Bonnard Kandinsky Klee

One of my all time favorite paintings is "Bar at the Follies Bergere" by Manet. I have a small print of it in my kitchen.
