I think we're at risk of panicking, rushing into legislation and not tackling the issues behind gun crime. Thus, it's entirely likely that this won't do anything to stop the rising gun crime figures.

Since handguns were banned 5 years ago gun crime in Britain has risen dramatically.
How much of a factor the increase in supply of illegal guns has to do with this is open to speculation.
Neverless guns that were in privale ownership with or without licieces will have been disposed of through the underground market rather than being surrendered to the authorities.

if you were a bobby you wouldn't have a gun to shot someone with. They are 'supposed' to go unarmed.

Guer: the kind of idiot who thinks since it's not real, you can't get into trouble for having it.

I always thought that was a really stupid loophole. I own a replica gun, but you'd have to be a real twit to take it round town with you. CzarNicky, yes, our police on the beat are unarmed, but if you carry a replica gun around the streets, they'll call up an armed response unit and you'll most likely end up just as full of holes anyway.

Like that guy in Brixton that was killed for carrying a gun shaped cigarette lighter.
