Does your town have air raid sirens or any other large scale warning devices?
My town still has air raid sirens from WW2. They were put in because we live fairly close to a Canadian Forces Base, and they believed that there was a risk of an attack.

The sirens could be there for anything...earthquake warning, avalanche, volcanic activity, flood....etc.....

Yep, tornado sirens! They test them the first Wednesday of every month.

We have an air raid siren, probably because we live next to an air station. Also, our fire station signal sounds a lot like an air raid siren.

Yes we do. Its mainly used for a fire alarm b/c our fire dept. is all volenteer and its about the only way for them to be summound.

we have tornado sirens and sometimes they use them when we have a level 3 snow emergency ...... they test them on the frist saterday of the month

I don't think we do. No real need for them unless something goes wrong at Handford or the Umatilla chemical depot.

Several fire stations around here still have air raid sirens on their roofs. The one closer to my house goes off at the same time every day (I don't know why).

Yes, we have an air raid siren that is sounded once a month throughout Singapore. I also live very near a golf course which sounds an alarm to tell golfers to leave the course during a lightning storm (just about every day).

We have the reverse 911.

If there ever is a wide scale issue, everyone gets a call to evacuate..or whatever.

When I was in 4th and 5th grade, we lived about 1/2 mile from a state mental hospital (prison). It had a siren for incase someone wandered off (escaped).

Yeah - we have one for Tornados. We also have one in this town that I attend college in. They test it every month.
