Interesting question. I feel that a good percentage of mothers that get abortions don't care, they just want rid of the problem that they aren't ready to face yet.

Of course there is a chance that possiblity exists. But there is no point in living in the past.

Yep, it's a possibility.
Of course it's also a possibility that they could have been the modern version of an Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, or some such despot !!!

I think the possibility that an aborted baby could have been as contributing to the benefit of mankind as any baby who gets born.

Not in their fetal state. They would need to incubate for at least 6 months before trying to come out again.

Of course it's possible, but as a lot more babies are born than are aborted there's a greater chance of them being born...

What about miscarriages? Could they not have been the next Da Vinci?

I think you fail to realize how big a 1% chance is of anything special happening to a born human. For instance, count the number of people who actually revolutionized the world and divide by the number of people born that are alive today and you get about that statistic.

Sure. And then those geniuses were born to other people instead.

Pyrrial said what I was thinking. The people who revolutionise stuff are one in a squillions, not one in a hundreds. The incidence of genius would be no bigger than that for the general population, and probably much less, given that the parents probably wouldn't be able to give the child opportunities (why else would it be aborted).
Either way, asking about could-have-beens is pretty pointless. No one can ever say what the final consequences of any apparently insignificant event will be.

Another important question to ask is: what could the mother do with her life if she was not forced into carrying a child for 9 months and then raising it for another 18 years? Who knows, that mother could achieve great things too, but no one ever seems to put her life into consideration.

This borders a little on a moral and religious debate.

It doesn't matter, either way they were human beings and their lives were snuffed out because they came into exhistence at the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's possible but alot of people that are in existance have the potential to be great, but it doesn't happen that way.

whats the point of mulling over 'what could have been'?
Its more important to think about the future and move on.

Sure. They also could have been serial killers and child molesters.
The what if game is pointless.
