Only on things such as school grades. I hate it when people start comparing their looks to other peoples and it gets out of control to point they make themselves unhappy by it. I had a friend who was so insecure it made me feel worse about myself because she put me down all the time. She got to the point where she felt she couldn't be friends with someone because she felt they were better than her and that didn't suit her, and felt that this person was in the wrong when it was them for thinking in such a demented way.

Curently yes, especially things that can be quantitatively measured and things that are related to college admission. Grades, SAT scores, etc. My friend scored 10 points higher than me on our verbal SATs. I know it's silly to be slightly jealous, and to generally overemphasize numerical information, but oh well. It's natural and necessary compare yourself to other people, I think. |
