Is there a difference between a lawyer and an attorney?

Sure. First off, one starts with an "a" and the other starts with an "l". Then, one is preceded by "an" and the other "a". I think it gets much more complicated after that but it's good to start out slower for some of these people.

It also says in websters that lawyer "...is a general term, comprehending attorneys, counselors, solicitors, barristers, sergeants, and advocates." It looks like lawyers can do more stuff than an attorney

so you can get a liscense to practice law, but not be an attorney... not sure, but I would say thats wrong... my college friend, just graduated law school... he works with the distric attorney office... Ill ask him, but Im not sure theres an actual diffrence...

in the UK, you can be a lawyer, but if you are a solicitor, you can't do the work of a barrister etc etc

The other one i didnt get Lawyer - One versed in the laws, or a practitioner of law; one whose profession is to conduct lawsuits for clients, or to advise as to prosecution or defence of lawsuits, or as to legal rights and obligations in other matters. A lawyer? Just someone with their law degree. So you are being an Attorney when you are doing the talking the dealings for someone who has previously hired you to do so. I think.. :D
