18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 8/15/02 - 8:58:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
Faulkner and Shakespeare were significant in their own ways. I'll say Shakespeare because he coined more words currently in use in the English language.
18 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 8/15/02 - 9:05:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
I heard of Faulkner, but what did he write?
18 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Sunday 9/22/02 - 6:52:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd say Shakespeare mainly because he's more well known and reinvented his genre more thoroughly.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Thursday 7/19/07 - 11:15:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
Shakespeare because he wrote Romeo and Juliet and thats my favorite fairy tale.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 7/20/07 - 9:06:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
Faulkner. I can't beleive there are people here in their twenties who have never heard of him. Where the hell did you people go to school, you're local hardware store? Shakespear was an effing bore.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 7/20/07 - 11:42:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
Faulker wrote: The Sound and the Fury, Absalom Absalom!, As I Lay Dying, A Light in August, ...
20th Century modernism, with a southern US feel.
Faulkner was a decent writer, I don't much care for him... but nowhere near the stature of Shakespeare. Its like comparing filet mignon and meatloaf.
13 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 7/21/07 - 12:04:13 AM EST (GMT-5)
Significant? That's tricky, in his day Shakespeare was considered low-brow, now he's considered important enough to be part of all english speaking countries' school curriculum.
Faulkner on the other hand is the opposite.....

Simply because of how long he's lasted and how far he's spread, I'd have to say Shakespeare.

well, if you are talking about having a bigger impact on society and literature, then shakespeare of course, however, i think Faulkner is a better writer
13 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 10/9/07 - 6:18:39 PM EST (GMT-5)
I will say Shakers.
13 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 10/9/07 - 7:38:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
Were either of them really all that significant?
