Funniest Comments of the Week
Q: Do you think that the term,"That's Racist" is overly used?:
Electric: Yes. Especially when certain Ihh-tarded people ramble on about so-called "covert racism."
mynameismike: You don't think there's such a thing as covert racism?
b_bobbin: Of course there is. It's much easier for black people to hide at night.
Q: How do you you heel a heart broke by a fictional character? :
HarryNJ: Get some fictional therapy?
From a thread in the Suggestions forum:
Electric: When I'm looking at My Threads for various forums, or all forums, randomly threads from 5-6 years ago pop up that do not even have my posts in them. This has been going on for a while, I think since the New YT.
halzberry: Maybe it's buddy's way of joking with you about not being able to let the past go.
From the News thread about Patrick Swayze's death:
EhFahQ: Nobody puts Patrick in the coroner. RIP
Random Thread:
sansarf(from The Netherlands): Everytime i hear someone say Obama is a socialist it just makes me think that Americans are as ignorant about politics as they are about geography.
mwisebaker(from Ohio): Take that back or I'm driving down south there to beat you up.
Joke of the Week
Tom Jones
Patient: 'Doc I can't stop singing The Green, Green Grass of Home'
Doctor: "That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome."
Patient: ' Is it common? '
Doctor: "It's not unusual."

JoeInterview's Member Feature
This week's interview features KnifeGoingIn. This interview was conducted by travbowman, JayY, and holly_bolly.
JoeInterview: First off; what road led you to our strange little existence on the internet?
KnifeGoingIn: The Yellow Brick Road. Except not really. Now that I got that little predictable cliché out of the way: It was sort of an accident, how I found this site. My sisters, originally, found it and were on it (not as members) for the quizzes, mainly. Me, liking quizzes, decided to go on one day and after realizing that the Quizzes were not satisfying enough, I ventured to the Home page. "Whoa! There's a lot more to the site!"
So I lurked and was a Peeping Tom in forums and such until I finally decided to join. I have been hooked (you could say) ever since. There are a lot of things about this site that just keep me coming back, even on its dullest days.
JI: What are those things for you that keep you coming back for more?
KGI: I think it's the fact that this really is the only website (I go to regularly) where I can just be myself without worrying, "Oh, what if so-and-so reads this? What if, what if, what if?" you know? On other sites like Facebook, Myspace, even Livejournal, I have at least one real-life friend on it and that makes me a little uncomfortable and a bit hesitant and censoring in my writing. I know it's partly my fault for adding them on those sites or whatever, but still...
Here, however, I can write what I want, when I want, against whom I want and not worry about who might read it. Aside from the swear filter, my words on here are not filtered in the least. Some of my darkest secrets and woes find their way into my journals.
Another thing I like is the closeness of the "community." For the most part, it feels safe and friendly. If you're not a complete tool, you do make some good friends and find that between the bashings and the spiteful words, there is geniality.
JI: I'm sure there a lot of members that can relate to that. So for those that aren't informed; what is the story behind your screen-name?
KGI: Oh, yeah, I get a few questions and/or shouts of "Emo!" at my user-name, but it's actually just a song title from my favourite band (Tegan and Sara). The song is actually not even "emo"; the song is about a dream one of the artists had after her grandmother died.
Originally, I would have loved to have had PaintingSongs as my user-name, but, alas, that poor little S would have been left out and that's not fair. I even tried a couple other ones, but they were taken by people who have been gone for thousands of days. Jerks!
JI: DYou recently graduated and are taking your steps into post-secondary. What are you studying and aspiring to do for a career?
KGI: Yes, thank goodness. My plan is to transfer from this community college (meh) to UCLA and live there until I finish my undergrad things. Then, if possible, I'd like to attend graduate school in Vancouver or somewhere. I am currently planning to major in Psychology and English; I'm still undecided on whether I should pursue some sort of teaching position, or become a therapist.
JI: What about those fields interest you? What do they mean to you?
KGI: Teaching interests me because I know how much I love having a teacher who knows what they're doing and genuinely enjoys their job. I'd want to be that teacher that you learn from because you enjoy what's going on, or at least understand. If I were to be a teacher, it would be in a subject I'm interested in, so I'd be having fun with it as well.
As for being a therapist, I have always been told I'm an excellent listener and I know just what to say... well, most times. I truly wish to help those who need it. So many times I've been to therapists who make it clear it's just another way to be the breadwinner; they care about you, but only to an extent. I've heard stories of therapists who seemed not to care all that much, or (as what happened to me) did not keep things confidential.
I, myself, have always been hesitant to visit psychiatrists/therapists because I have never had one who was real with me and who actually kept my things confidential and not in the open view of my mum. I need a confidante and, thus far, my friends have been the only source of confidentiality I have ever had. I want that to change. I know there are many therapists who truly care, but I just want to add on to that.
There is also the fact that my friends (and even some strangers, for some reason) come to me for advice and a listening ear, and there are moments where I truly do not know what to say. I sometimes wish I had the training to deal with some of the problems a few friends dish out.
I feel like this entire answer doesn't make much sense, but... well, it is one in the morning. Heh.
JI: What's the best thing about being Canadian?
KGI: That is a tough question. If I could choose something that I've seen, that makes it seem really good to be Canadian, it would be the universal health-care and the abundance of natural beauty. Not saying America doesn't have natural beauty, but there just appears to be... more "local" beauty, if that makes sense. Also, gay marriage.
JI: What would you say is the the most beautiful place you have been?
KGI: I would have to say The Grand Canyon. It has a different sort of beauty to it that's not exactly conventional. I could stare at that hole in the earth for hours on end, just full of awe. I loved it when I went and was sad we couldn't go into it and do all that other fun stuff. Even so, I really enjoyed my trip there; so many colours and shapes and seemingly untouched ground, it was like looking into a foreign planet. The thing looked like a backdrop, it was so surreal.
JI: Whose sense of humour can get you to laugh every time you read/watch/hear it?
KGI: Oh, gees, that's even harder and the answer is probably going to end up being even nerdier. I will say that the type of humour I enjoy, my favourite band has, and their banter is hilarious to me. I'm not saying they are the epitome of perfect humour, but their type of humour is the epitome of humour I love. Sarcasm and jabs, mixed in with wit; none of that using raunchy things to be funny or anything (although those can make for a good laugh at times, too). I like intelligence in a comedian/artist.
JI: For the uninitiated, what Tegan and Sara song(s) do you recommend as a crash course on the band?
KGI: Hm. I could name the first songs that got me hooked on them, which were "The Con" and "Here I Am." A favourite of those who I've introduced them to, has been "Call It Off." Or "Back In Your Head."
I will warn you right now though, their sound is not for everyone and I understand they are an "acquired taste" (you could say), but for me, I like what they stand for, along with their music.
Their music is part of the reason I enjoy them, but their personalities, lyrics and musical talent is what keeps me a fan and what makes them my favourite.
JI: If you could meet any three YTers anywhere you wanted, who would be there, and where would it be?
KGI: Ah! Now I feel all pressured to yield to the non-existing pleas of, "Pick me, or we're no longer friends!" like you would hear in grade school, when you thought you could only have one best friend. But! That said, there are a few I'd like to meet. Maybe not all at the same time, as I don't know how awkward that would be. In no particular order:
I would like to meet Cindy because she's one of the adults on here who, although old enough to be my mum (YT mum, as I call her at times), she seems really cool and we've had some nice conversations.
I would like to meet Pandora, as we have also spoken before with nice conversations and she seems like the perfect artistic soul that I would love to chat face-to-face with.
I would also like to meet Treagol, as we have billion-page PM going and she seems like a fun person to hang out with.
JI: What's a hidden talent of yours that few on YT know about?
KGI: I don't think I have one of those. I have normal talents that I'm sure few on YT know about, since I rarely talk about them. I'm pretty good at hockey, drawing and some writing. Er... I'm double-jointed? I can whistle pretty fantastically? I'm a pretty great procrastinator, but I'm sure that's a given.
JI: Hockey, eh? Who's your favourite NHL player and why?
KGI: Haha! I'm not one of those hockey players that plays and watches the sport enthusiastically. I just love playing it. I'm not even sure I could name a hockey player, which is shameful, I'm sure.
JI: Who outside of family has had the biggest impact on your life?
KGI: Oh, goodness, now that's just impossible. I am everyone I have ever met; the only people who have not had the biggest impact on my life have been mere acquaintances. Then again, even people I have not met (idols and the like) have left a significant imprint. It's hard to say who has had the biggest, apocalyptic meteor impact on me... I know it's probably cheating, but I'll just go ahead and say that anyone who has ever meant anything to me has had a truly significant role in my metamorphosis.
JI: Your profile lists your religion as "Other". What's your elaboration of your views on the religious world?
KGI: Well, I was raised Catholic in a Catholic household. Thing is, my mum was/is very liberal in our upbringing, so it's not like we lived strictly by the Bible or something. The only thing we were told was that there was a God who existed and that he loved you, no matter what. For a long time, I lived with this idea and was content and whatever. As I grew older, however, I started to think about things a lot and started wondering if there was a god at all. I still don't know what I think. Maybe there is a god, maybe there isn't. Sometimes I like to think that everyone's god (or lack thereof) is real and we all go to wherever we believe when we die. Like segregated heavens with little visiting centres or something, haha!
I dunno. There are times when I truly believe we are just alone here and then there are times when I think there has to be something out there bigger than me. What bugs me though, is when people automatically shoot down others with, "There is no god!" or, "There is a god!" all forcibly (as I have seen before), as if these words were fact. It's a bit annoying. It is not fact, it is a belief. No one knows anything for sure in those regards.
I have also gotten comments that my upbringing (without avid Bible reading or frequent church-going after ten years old) is not really the "Catholic" way. Eh. Maybe it's not, but that's what my family identifies with. They believe that their God won't judge you, unless you actually harm someone and that you shouldn't be "god-fearing." Why fear your god? I think if you fear your creator (if you believe), you're doing something wrong.
JI: What's your most prized possession and why?
KGI: I'm going to go all cheesy on you and say love is my most prized possession. Without it, life would lose its worth of living. I cherish the love of my friends and family and it's one of those things you don't need to store in a safe, or keep covered in plastic, so that's a plus.
JI: Alright, hippie, tell us what really grinds your gears.
KGI: Haha! Now pet peeves, that's easy. And almost endless, I'm sure. I greatly dislike "netspeak," arrogance, bigotry and anything that could be related, I suppose. There's also the bigger peeves, like when no one wants to let you in their lane, even when you have your blinker on and need to move over. Things like that. Those are just ones that come to mind right away.
JI: What is an annoying habit that you have?
KGI: I'm very indecisive. I think I take too long weighing the pros and cons of a situation and I spend too long thinking of possible outcomes. So I think. I really need to cut back on the, "Whatever you wants to do" and indulge in more, "I want to do/we should do."
JI: What's your forte in the kitchen (and don't answer with "Whatever you want to eat" ) ?
KGI: I make a mean grilled cheese. Not kidding, people love it. I'm also pretty great at making pancakes. They almost smell like cake mix and heaven. Not to brag or anything...
JI: What's the key to a well-made grilled cheese?
KGI: Hm, there's not too much of a key. You just have to make sure it doesn't get too burnt (obviously), but just golden-brown enough to be freaking fantastic. How cheesy.
JI: Any final words of wisdom to share with your fellow YTers?
KGI: Let's not regret, let's reconsider.
