Joke of the Week

The Vase

A guy goes to a girl's house for the first time, and she shows him into the living room. She excuses herself to go to the kitchen to make them a few drinks, and as he's standing there alone, he notices a cute little vase on the mantel. He picks it up, and as he's looking at it, she walks back in.

He says "What's this?"

She says, "Oh, my father's ashes are in there."

He says, "Jeez...oooh....I..."

She says, "Yeah, he's too lazy to go to the kitchen to get an ashtray."

JoeInterview's Member Feature

This week's interview features Proserpine. This interview was conducted by travbowman.

JoeInterview: First off, how did you find YT?

Proserpine: One day, as an 11-year-old girl, I was bored and typing random things with a ".com" after it. I found Bored.com, which held my interest for a few days, and from it, Youthink.com.

JI: What was the craziest thing you came across with ".com" after it?

P: At the time, I was 11, so I was typing in silly things like pretzel and saucepan and Ethiopia. I'd definitely have to say it was when I was going to Facebook, made a typo, and ended up at some kind of hardcore porn site, displaying all sorts of unnatural and disgusting things.

JI: What would you say is the biggest reason you keep coming back to YT?

P: I'm gonna say it's because of the constant drama and rifts between personalities. Just as you think it's getting boring, there's a pornocide, or a banning, or some type of scandal made public. This place is like a giant soap opera, and I'm a bit ashamed to say that I very much enjoy it.

JI: What are you most looking forward to this summer?

P: Even though I have a lot of work to do this summer, I'm really looking forward to not having to wake up at 6 AM, and being able to drive when ever I want, without the presence of an adult.

I'm also really excited to start my senior year, and start the whole college application process.

JI: What are the attributes that are most important to you in searching out prospective colleges?

P: I want a college that's large and in/close to a major city, which has a variety of majors, especially in the field of biology. I'd like to feel like there's a lot of activity going on around me, where I could go to parties if I chose to, but also had fine resources for my education close at hand.

JI: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

P: My main goal by that time is to be stable, emotionally and financially. So, hopefully I will have completed my graduate work in God-knows-what, have some sort of a home and a good job. By that time, I will have also hopefully traveled to most of the places that I want to. That just seems like an eternity from now.

JI: What's at the top of your must-see travel list?

P: If I could keep my mouth shut, I'd love to go to China.

JI: What sort of music has been getting the most spin from you lately?

P: I listen to the Beatles a lot, because their music really makes me happy. That and those ridiculous songs they play on the radio today that are good for my style of "dancing".

It seems, though, that everyday I'm being forced to listen to another song by the Residents. And they freak me out more than a little.

JI: What's the best thing about living in New England?

P: Our adorable accents, and Del's lemonade.

JI: What's the worst thing about living where you do?

P: It's a tie between everybody being in a rush, when there's so little to do here, and the cold.

JI: What's the best way to spend a weekend?

P: Doing absolutely nothing. With all the things that go unexpectedly in everyday life, it's nice to have some time to relax for a little while.

JI: What sort of activities are you involved in at school?

P: I'm part of the executive committee. We set up dances, activities, handle the class budget, etc. I'm also part of the Spanish Honors Society, but that's just getting a certificate after you take 3 years of it.

JI: Is there anything difficult or frustrating about being on the executive committee?

P: A lot of people are very insistent upon their ideas, whether it's realistic or not. And when they're outvoted, they keep arguing the idea. They don't realize that we can't make thousands of dollars in a month.

JI: What's your most prized possession and why?

P: If my dog counts as a possession, it would have to be him. he is seriously the best dog ever; I've had him for as long as I can remember, and we consider him part of our family.

JI: What does family mean to you?

P: Your family is your foundation for your beliefs and your character. If they're anywhere near decent, they'll always be there for you and love you. My family is very important to me, and I feel very lucky to have strong role models in my life like my parents.

JI: Who outside of family has had the biggest impact on your life?

P: Through the years, my best friend has always been there. Even though we're so different, I can't remember a time where I didn't consider her one of my favorite people. She's really helped me through all kinds of problems, and I hope we won't grow apart.

JI: If you could meet three YTers anywhere you wanted, who would be there, and where would it be?

P: TheKaiser, McDoug8, and Tieka. We could go to Disney. Which may seem a little weird, but I only went once when I was little and I hardly remember it. I'd really like to go back.

JI: For those who don't know, what's the story behind your screenname?

P: At the time I made this account, we were studying Greek mythology, and the goddess Persephone was my favorite. Persephone was already taken, so I looked up some alternate versions and found Proserpine.

JI: What's a hidden talent of yours that few on YT know about?

P: I think that I'm a good communicator and I can be forward and make people laugh without being obnoxious. It doesn't really work in writing, though.

JI: What was the last good movie you saw?

P: Star Trek, and it was possibly one of the best I've seen in my life.

JI: Had you seen any of the previous Trek installments?

P: My boyfriend kind of pushed me to watch the Original Series, which was all right. But I'm not a huge fan of Star Trek. I just saw the commercial, thought it looked cool, and went to go see it.

JI: Do you have a parting shot to share with your fellow YTers?

P: Don't ever be too serious.
