Joke of the Week

Shoulda Said

This guy walks into a bar with his golden retriever. 'Hey, can I get a drink on the house if my dog talks for you?'

'Dogs can't talk, pal. But if you can prove to me yours does, I'll give you a drink. If not, I get to kick your ass.'

'Okay,' says the guy. He turns to his dog. 'Okay fella. Tell me -- what is on top of a house?'

'Roof!' The man turns and smiles at the bartender.

'THAT ain't talking! Any dog can bark!'

'Okay boy. Tell me -- how does sandpaper feel?'

'Ruff!"

'What the hell you tryin' to pull mister?'

'Okay, okay," says the man. "One more question please. Okay buddy, tell me -- who is the greatest ball player who ever lived?'

"Ruth."

The bartender beats the hell out of the guy and throws onto the sidewalk outside of the bar, then throws the dog out next to him. The dog stands up and looks at the guy.

"Geez. Maybe I shoulda said DiMaggio?"

JoeInterview's Member Feature

This week's interview features Spratacus. This interview was conducted by travbowman.

JoeInterview: First off, how did you find YT?

Spratacus: Like so many others, I found YT through IAB, which I still visit...when I'm bored.

JI: What would you say is the biggest reason you keep coming back for more?

Scus: I'm a 'people watcher'. Always have been. I love to visit YT and see what makes people tick, and what ticks them off. I don't interact with too many people, but when I do, it's mostly to joke around and have fun.

JI: Are you the same way in real life?

Scus: I believe I am the same way in real life, most of the time. I love to watch people in crowded places, like malls and the like. I just love watching people interact with their kids, friends, and even strangers. It intrigues me. I also interact exclusively with my family, and a small circle of friends in real life. I would say that I live a fairly normal life in this respect. So for the most part, what YT sees of me is pretty much me in real life.

JI: What's the best thing about being a grandfather?

Scus: Just like being a Dad, it's the unconditional love. Reliving some of the things I did with my own kids is also priceless. It just takes me back to when I was raising my own. (The pic above is) My daughter's son and I in 2008. It goes far beyond this though. I might have to write a book to explain it all...

JI: Does your daughter ever come to you asking parenting advice?

Scus: My daughter comes to both myself and my wife for parenting advice. I'd like to think that I'm the one who resolves all of her problems, both large, small, and in between, but that's simply not the way it is. Sometimes it's just my wife. Sometimes it's just me. Most times it's all of us figuring out answers together.

JI: When will the Maple Leafs hoist the Stanley Cup again?

Scus: Bad, bad, bad, Joe. Very bad. I don't care. It could be another forty years! One more time before I die would be nice though. (I was actually alive when they won their "latest" cup in 1967, so I'm good!) OBVIOUSLY Joe, the Leafs are in re-building mode at this time, so ask me, um, again later, at a more 'appropriate' time.

JI: Do you look back fondly at the Mats Sundin era or was he just a talented player who didn't have what it takes to win?

Scus: I'll always look back fondly at the "Mats Sundin era". Mats was a great part of the Leafs organization, and I am most certainly going to miss him being a part of the team. It takes more than one player to win the trophy of all trophies miss/sir!

JI: What's the best thing about living in Ontario?

Scus: Ontario is a great province to live in, and a great place to raise children. The weather is awesome, especially in the south of Ontario, where I live, compared to the rest of Canada. Did I mention the Great Lakes?

JI: What's the biggest disadvantage to living where you do?

Scus: I live in the Automotive Capital of Canada, and because of the Detroit Three's woes, we have experienced plant closures and many job losses in the last several years. For many, this would be the biggest disadvantage of living in this city, although we have not been directly affected. Yet.

JI: What's the most difficult thing about being in management as a career?

Scus: Upper management. The people who rarely listen to the people who manage the people 'on the front line'. Some may say this is a generalization, but I've found it to be the norm. The bigger they are, the more they don't care.

JI: What are you most looking forward to in 09?

Scus: Spring? SUMMER?!? Seriously! More importantly, I'm looking forward to being on top of the grass, as opposed to being beneath it, in the year 2009.

JI: What sort of music has been getting the most spin from you lately?

Scus: I love classic rock, and listen to a wide variety of artists, but lately I've been getting my spin from a couple of YT'ers and their amateur radio shows. Good clean fun! Shout outs go to Razzlberry and Wiseguybaker.

JI: What new acts have they introduced you to that you've really been impressed with?

Scus: They haven't actually introduced me to any new acts, as in new or newer bands, because they mostly spin the classic rock that I grew up with and love. And if they were spinning newer stuff, I probably wasn't paying attention. ADD or ADHD. Pick one.

JI: How did you and your wife meet?

Scus: A very good friend of mine set my wife and I up. I knew who she was, but didn't believe him that she was available, until he gave me her phone number. It was her hand writing, telling me she wanted to get to know me better, so I knew that she really did want to meet me. I called her once I found the balls enough to do so, and we made a date for a local Tim Horton's to have coffee.

The rest is history, as we were married just over a year later. We celebrated our tenth anniversary this past July. She's a Saint. She helped raise kids that were never hers, but considers them as hers, and now that we have grandchildren, she continues to show that she really is a parent, AND grandparent. Because she is. What was the question again? Dang I always go off topic!

JI: What was the high school version of Sprat like?

Scus: I was the studious nerd, with a small circle of friends. Most of them also part of the high school band.

JI: What instrument did you play in the band?

Scus: I played the trumpet. I started learning how to play when I was ten years old, and played until the end of high school.

JI: Whose posts do you most enjoy reading on YT?

Scus: DAMN! I'll never be able to narrow that down to one person/persona. I like the whole spectrum of YT posters. That's what keeps me coming back, I Think. YT can be quite entertaining at times. Just sayin'! EhFAQ. He keeps it real. Meggs'n'vicious. Quite entertaining.

I also love the berger/burger, frog Frenchy, and the JayY jelly. Since I'm from Canadia, as Twindsor would put it, I am allowed to make fun of the Frogs.

Kraken, Sammy, Chips, Bored (for his unabashed bashing), Halzberry, Mr_Pink, Racmoron, Bobfudge and Jenn, Druid, Grundle, 1Bunnyfoofoo, (aka RedLeg and SawFan), Tess, Blu, The Twisebaker duo, Brocky the beeotch. I could go on forevar!

The point is, is that there are too many YT'ers to list that make this place so....addictive. It's a GREAT community. Loves go out to TwoLips, NewlyFree, WhiteTiger, HoldControlDown, Oreo, Red82, SHEADY!!, Res, die_numb, and even HabsFag55!

Oh, and Cindy_. So yeah, enough with the naming of names. I know that there are many more that I have forgotten to mention.... Like Sander, and Birdsong, and what's that kids' name from Iceland?

JI: What was the last good movie you saw?

Scus: That would be Gran Torino. Great Eastwood flick.

JI: What genre of movie do you generally prefer when you go to the cinema?

Scus: I prefer to see action flicks in theatres, but that rarely happens. I almost never choose the movie when we go to the cinema. Gran Torino was a treat for me!

JI: Whose humour do you always enjoy whenever you read/watch/hear it?

Scus: Conan O'Brien.

JI: Do you think he'll change much with the move to a new time slot?

Scus: I don't think he will change much at all. At least I hope not, because I love his type of wacky humour!

JI: Do you have any final words of wisdom to share with your fellow YTers?

Scus: May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits!

Understanding twinds, understanding YT
Excerpt: This morning is a poignant moment in my YT life, kinda come full circle, i guess that's what's prompting this unusually serious journal. I reread a lengthy PM to a friend on here this morning and realised it was a pretty good summary of what my life has shaped me to be...and then i realised that most of YT would have a completely different perception of me, which brings me here.
