Joke of the Week
Sex Certificate
Joe was telling his friend Mike that he was stumped on what to get his wife for her birthday.
"She has everything," Joe told him. "And besides, she can afford to buy anything she wants."
Mike responded, "I have an idea. Why don't you make up a certificate that says she can have two hours of great sex, anyway she wants it. She'll probably be thrilled!"
So Joe did just that. The next day Mike asked him, "Well, did you take my suggestion? How did it turn out?"
"She loved it." Joe told him. "She jumped up, thanked me, kissed me on the mouth, and ran out the door yelling, 'I'll see you in two hours."

JoeInterview's Member Feature
This week's interview features Balladeer. This interview was conducted by travbowman.
JoeInterview: First off, how did you find YT?
Balladeer: I was living in Oregon at the time, working in between trades and just started working for an ISP (Internet Service Provider). I was working a Saturday and found the end of the Interwebs and saw an ad for i-am-bored.com. I started going to it more and more and saw the "youthink.com" banner. I never really did forums before, but this one- this one was different.
JI: What would you say is the biggest reason you keep coming back for more?
B: At first it was boredom, then I started talking with a lot of the regulars on here and I started gaining this relationship with a lot of them. I consider a lot of them friends still to this day.
JI: What's your job like?
B: I'm actually a systems administrator on contract for the Department of Defense, in one of the many branches- I love it. The hours are awesome, I love the challenges and I actually enjoy going to work every morning. I always run into funny/interesting/weird things throughout the day.
JI: What's the funniest thing you've run into that you can legally share with us?
B: I'll use an example from the ISP I used to work for in Oregon. It was my first week, I think I was on my second day of answering phones and I get my first call of the day. The man on the other end admits to being 82 years old and has just now found the joy of the Internet. I help him get connected and everything and before I hang up the phone he demands that I quit sending him mail.
So I said, "Sir, the only mail we send you is probably your bill or changes to your service." He replies, "No- you are sending me mail about my stuff! I don't want to make it bigger! I'm sick of your "VIAGRI" and methods of making me last longer! I'm a damned old man! I don't want this!" and than he hangs up the phone. My supervisor who is keyed in on the conversation on another headset was already busting up a long time ago, I just couldn't help it anymore.
I guess it's really only funnier if you're there, stuff like that just cracks me up though. I've had a lot of other non tech related jobs, but these are just fun to me.
JI: You just passed your 3 year anniversary at YT. How have you changed the most in that time?
B: Wow... It has been that long. I'd like to think I've grown up a lot. I went from staying out all night drinking everyday and partying all the time to settling down and having a daughter. Truth be known my daughter has really changed me the most.
JI: How old is your bundle of joy?
B: She will be 4 months on October the 14th. She is a beautiful little girl.
JI: How did you and your wife meet?
B: I was living in Oregon at the time and my father had 2 massive strokes back to back and asked me to come back to Oklahoma so that I could help him out in the family welding business. Since I grew up in Oklahoma and I used to have a band with some of my friends, we decided to start it back up. We started going to play shows about every other night and all the weekend nights. We had a regular gig at a mexican resturaunt/cantina where I knew the guy real well. We made a deal with him that we would just play his shows for free beer.
I met a bartendress at the bar and we started hanging out, we kind of just clicked immediately with music tastes. I was over at her house one day and her friend was visiting from Alabama, my wife.
We decided to go out to lunch and me and her just clicked about everything. I had picked up a second job working second shift and had to leave but got an email later at work to stop by again at the waitresses house with some beer. After I got off work I went back over there and me and my girl talked until 6 in the morning. She had never been fishing so I got my pole out and we went to my house, where I lived on the lake. Unfortunately my pole was broken so we just went for a morning swim.
She went back to Alabama and I wasn't sure that I would see her again, but she kept emailing me and calling me and then came back a few weeks later! She stayed with me this time and we actually got to go on a date and spend one on one time for more than just a night to see if we wanted to continue what we had going. This was about September when this happened and my father's shop at slowed to a crawl and he was back up to speed physically again so I decided to just work full time at the other place and part time at my dad's shop.
Me and my girl would go back and forth about once every 2 or 3 weeks to visit each other and take turns on who visited who. Me and my wife dated long distance for 6 months when I decided to move down to Alabama. I left my job in Oklahoma in February of 2006 and have lived in Alabama ever since. We got married in September! I like telling that story!
JI: Besides the loves of your life being there, what's the best thing about living in Alabama?
B: The people here are genuine. I know that sounds corny, but I've lived in a few places and the people here actually seem to care, even in passing conversation. The "Southern Hospitality" rule does apply. Other than that, it's hot and they eat a LOT, which is why I'm trying to lose some weight
JI: What sort of music has been getting the most spin from you lately?
B: Now we're talking. I've been listening to a band called Atmosphere, underground Hip Hop. They've got really good beats and a nice cool sound that pulls you down and forces you too listen. I might not agree with the lyrics but I have to respect music that has such powerful lyrics. Check it out, very good.
Other than that, as always, a lot of stuff I used to listen to always comes back to me. I'm also digging the Robert Plant and Allison Krause album. I just love the twang. I always get into the mood for 90's grunge and "alternative" rock. I will just have the weirdest playlist ever sometimes.
JI: Does your screenname come from a love of music?
B: My screename is something I adopted years ago. I've played around in different bands since i was 16 and in everyone I was writing lyrics and singing because I had to. I deem myself as a Balladeer in modern day terms.
JI: What is the cheesiest line you ever wrote?
B: It's from one of my songs that we used to play at a bar. "Where's my smokes and where is my beer. How did they get so far away from here?" See? Cheezy!
JI: What's your drink of choice when at the bar?
B: When I'm out for trouble, I start off with 2 shots of redbull and vodka. After that follow up with shots of Jack and a beer to chase it. Lately it's been one shot of jack to every 4 beers. I'll sip on it as I'm drinking the beer.
JI: What was high school Balladeer like?
B: High school Balladeer was a confused little boy. I did fine up until about the end of my junior year. I was always really shy, kind of kept to myself. When I was a junior I started experimenting with drugs and drinking and got a nice little addiction to a few things. I would go through good months and bad months, but still managed to hold a job and take care of things for the most part.
I don't think it helped that my senior year I only had two classes a day, than was released to work. I held a job at the local newspaper as a features writer. After I graduated from High School they promoted me to the on staff sports writer. I didn't know anything about sports...still don't really!
JI: When you see teens today getting into the same problems, what advice do you give?
B: I've come to the conclusion, no matter what advice you give, they will just ride it out in they're own fashion guns blazing all the way down. When I get wind of something or I've had a similar experience, I will talk to them about it- if they want to listen.
It's just a really difficult time for people. They're just figuring out that they can make they're own decisions and want to press it. I just say be yourself. You've went without it this long, how can you miss something you've never had?
JI: You can meet any three YTers anywhere you want. Who's there and what's the setting?
B: Hmm...This is hard...jstchkndmale because she's goofy, jeni_s and becca123. I've only recently started talking with jst and becca and I've known Jeni_S forever. Maybe a camping trip or disney land. Probably the camping trip, but disney land would be hella fun and I've never been. Does that make sense?
JI: I'm pretty sure you can combine the ideas!
B: DO you realize how fun this quite possibly could be? Joe- you should come too. Just lay off the sauce.
JI: Speaking of which, what's the craziest thing you've ever done while drunk?
B: Oh gawd. The list continues on this one. I've done a lot of stupid things and I've done a lot of fun things. One thing I'm very, very guilty of is while watching small shows, I try to go up and play they're instruments or sing in they're place because I know that I can do so much better. I was in Atlanta with my girl and a whole bunch of her friends and I was really drunk. I walked up and tried to take the microphone from the singer. He was cool about it, but still... not cool. haha
JI: What's the worst thing an audience can do while you're performing?
B: The thing that always happens to me: "PLAY SOME SKYNARD!" Lynard Skynard, ya'll.
JI: What's the best thing you make in the kitchen?
B: Steak and eggs. And Breakfast food. Really that's all I make in the kitchen. haha. I figure if I cook a mean breakfast, than someone else can cook me a mean lunch and dinner!
JI: Any final words of wisdom to share with your fellow YTers?
B: Stay long enough to like it- but not long enough to be addicted.

The Coffin that sits in the Chapel
Excerpt: The man was there, in the ruined little chapel. He sat in the front middle pew, listening to an unheard sermon, mouthing the words to an unsung hymn. He sat, waited, and prayed. He was a young man of about twenty-one.
