Funniest Comments of the Week
Random Thread:
niknik2oo5: Why did "Puttin' on the Ritz" just pop into my head? That song is moderately terrifying.
PuddingCup: I hated it, but now it's ok. It grows on a person.
bendaman: So does fungus, doesn't make it any less terrible.
In a thread about influential YTers, in which kikipeepers was talked about for several posts in a row. She had not added anything to the thread previously:
KikiPeepers: That's the biggest lie ever - mods even tried to get people to prove it and nobody stepped forward. I post as many questions now as I did when I was a mod, so it doesn't even make sense for someone to think that.
ichabod00x: WOW! now i want to try this: beetlejuice beetlejuice beetlejuice
In a thread about a news story titled 'Stripper rapes man':
HaroldtheBat: How did he not just kick her ass?
snowbdr88: He was too busy taking it in his?
In a thread talking about the large hadron collider:
dazajane: "Close to nonexistent " isn't quite good enough for me. I hope they know what they're doing.
BobFudge: The more I read about this thingy, the more scared I become. Why would they mess with this if there was even the slightest chance something could go wrong and end up killing us all?
Brunnen_G: See what happens when you let girls talk about science? Someone start a kitten thread for them...
From a thread on an article about adults being questioned by authorities if they were in a park without kids:
Pendergast: "The policy came to light after two environmental campaigners dressed as penguins were thrown out of the park last month when caught handing out leaflets on climate change."
Pantala: Everyone knows you can't trust penguins. If they aren't flying with those wings they must be molesting children with them.
Joke of the Week
Two Cows
There are two cows in a field.
One cow says, "So what do you think of this mad cow disease?"
And the other cow says, "What do I care, I'm a helicopter!"

JoeInterview's Member Feature
This week's interview features psychoman364. This interview was conducted by travbowman.
JoeInterview: First off, how did you find YT?
psychoman364: Back in '02, I was on facethejury and they had a link to YT. I registered, forgot about it for a week. I clicked the link again, completely forgetting I'd registered, and found myself logged in. I started posting and slowly became hooked.
JI: And what would you say is the biggest reason you keep coming back for more?
PM364: It was one of the first forums I'd ever joined. I was used to chat rooms, people discuss one topic which drifts into another, and another, and so on. Here we had people discussing all kinds of different stuff - whining about their cats, debating politics, debating religion, posting stupid pictures, and I'd never really seen this kind of environment before. I could post my opinion on a hundred threads in a day, on a hundred different topics, without derailing an entire chatroom or being ignored. The discussions here were a lot more intelligent than most chatrooms, although it took me a few months of insults to stop typing in netspeak.
JI: How have you changed the most in the nearly six years you've spent here?
PM364: Oh man, that's a hell of a question. I look back at the journals from my 13-to-14 year old self and I'm embarrassed. I was such an idiot, I don't know how the hell YT put up with me.
I'm gonna go with being calmer. I'm much less impulsive these days. I actually think before I post, instead of running into every Avril Lavigne thread and posting "SHE SUCKS!!!!" because I don't like her music. (which I used to do, for the record.) I proofread, edit sometimes, and I stop and think for a few seconds. I've also had a couple realizations about how an opinion works... If there's a fan thread for, say, Avril Lavigne, there's no point in caps-locking my opinion and acting as if it's better than everyone else's. My posting's slowed down a lot due to it, but I think I come off a lot better than I used to.
JI: You list your occupation as working for a local newspaper. What does your job entail?
PM364: Basically, I lift bundles of paper. I work in the mailroom, we handle the papers after they're printed - putting the inserts in, organizing them, getting them loaded onto trucks. We do a lot of commercial printing, weeklies (and 2 dailies) that go to New Jersey. I usually work on those papers - putting inserts into the machine and building skids, which is loading bundles of newspapers onto a pallet and wrapping it up with shrinkwrap.
It's an incredibly boring, tedious job but it pays well and fits my nocturnal schedule. I can sleep til noon every day and wear whatever I want and keep my long hair and goatee. Which is awesome. Also I don't work with the public, so no annoying customers to deal with.
JI: When was the last time you cut your hair?
PM364: A serious cut, not a trim? 4 1/2 years ago. I've had a few trims since then, but that's when I really started growing it. I was bored with my hair at the time, I'd just started getting into metal, and I saw these guys with long hair. I thought "hey, that might work for me." So I started growing it. And I haven't regretted it since. Even when my old catholic school made me do ridiculous things to keep it - like pull it into a ponytail and pin it to the back of my head.
Funny side note, one of my best friends started growing his hair around the same time, we were the only 2 guys with long hair in the school, we had to do the same ridiculous things to it and we both ended up the sound guys for our school. Also, the year after we left they instituted a hard-and-fast rule of "no long hair on men."
JI: Outside of the hair incident, what was life as an atheist like for you at Catholic school?
PM364: I didn't become an atheist until my senior year, so there wasn't much conflict. I generally kept quiet in religion class and most of the tests were worded as "The Catholic Church believes..." so I never really had to lie on tests and reports and such. I also didn't talk about my beliefs much, so most people assumed I was still Catholic. Dress-down days were hilarious, though, with some of my band shirts. I actually had a nun tell me I was going to burn in hell, dead serious!
JI: If there were such a soul-determining scale, which band's t-shirts do you think ranks as most likely to send someone to Hell?
PM364: Hannah Montana. Legions of 11-year-olds are all going to hell because of her. Or Mayhem. They burned churches and killed people.
JI: What's the best thing about living in New York City?
PM364: Well, I *technically* live in NYC. Staten Island's basically a suburb, there isn't much here. It's incredibly boring, my friends and I usually hang out in parking lots til 3 AM. There really isn't much else to do. But we have fairly easy and cheap access to the other boroughs.
And I love concerts. Which works well here, because you couldn't really ask for a better city for them. We've got dozens of venues, from tiny clubs to Madison Square Garden. Drive across a bridge and we have Giants Stadium for the really big shows, go to Times Square and hit 4 nice venues in a 2 block radius. If a band's touring the US, they're almost guaranteed to stop here.
JI: Do you think you could ever handle living in a smaller city?
PM364: I could. I'd miss a couple of things, but I'd adapt. I don't use much public transportation, as things are either too close to be worth it or too far away to use without leaving like 2 hours early.
JI: You're known for your love of metal and other dark music. What's the lightest thing in your music collection?
PM364: AFI and Green Day. I don't like all that much pop-punk, but what I do like I really love. Green Day's American Idiot is one of my all-time favorite albums.
JI: What would be your dream job?
PM364: Making music. I wish I could play and write, and to be paid for it would be amazing. I wouldn't want to be famous, I'd actually hate having paparazzi follow my every move and misstep. I'd love to have some recognition, great fans, and a nice salary.
JI: Where do you see yourself in ten years if the music biz doesn't work out?
PM364: I don't honestly see the music biz working out, seeing as I can barely play anything. I just see myself working a decent jpb that fits my sleep cycle, while writing a bunch on the side. That's one thing I am good at - writing.
JI: What is your biggest fear in life?
PM364: Somehow ending up friendless. I love my friends, I love hanging out with them and they keep me from going completely insane. A life without them, or any friends would be horrible. Or to turn into the Elephant Man. The guy's picture freaked me out when I was a kid, I'd hate to have the stares and screams follow me wherever I go.
JI: What word or phrase do you use entirely too often?
PM364: 'Trust me.' I say that a lot, whether it's telling someone how to do something or outlining semi-insane plans.
JI: Do you see yourself as a fairly trustworthy person in most situation?
PM364: Mostly yes. I try not to give advice unless I know what I'm doing, or I have a decently thought-out plan. It doesn't always work but I do my best. I also try as hard as I can to keep my word, and my friends trust me a lot.
JI: What is the last good movie you saw?
PM364: The Dark Knight, as is probably the normal answer by now. Damn good movie, Ledger's Joker was incredible and I just had a good time seeing it. Besides that, I've just been watching the DVDs of Veronica Mars, incredible show!
JI: What's your favourite episode of Veronica Mars so far?
PM364: Last episode of Season 2 was awesome. An awesome plot twist, just shocked the hell out of me and made the entire season make a lot more sense.
JI: Why do you think the show struggled to find a larger viewing audience?
PM364: It takes some time to get into. When I first borrowed the season 1 DVD from my friend, I watched a few episodes and kinda forgot about it. It wasn't until I sat down and watched it for a few hours that I really started to love it.
Once you do get into it, though, it's addictive. I watched 2 full seasons in less than a week, I had 5 hour marathons. For comparison, I watch TV about an hour a week normally. I haven't been this into a show since "Heroes" was last on TV, and now that's coming back...
JI: What was the last good thing you read?
PM364: Probably Lord of the Rings, for the 10th time or so. I'm a huge fan of Tolkien and his works, I actually want a tattoo of the Ring of Power inscription around my upper arm.
JI: Do you get something new from each reading?
PM364: I notice new things here and there, pay a little more attention in certain parts sometimes. I see the allusions to Tolkien's Silmarillion, referencing past events and such. And after all that, I always have good time re-reading it, which is why I keep going back.
JI: Did anything disappoint you about the movie adaptations?
PM364: I had a couple moments of "That wasn't in the books!" and "Where's the part in the books?" but overall I liked them. They exposed LOTR to a whole new generation of people, and they were really good movies in their own right.
JI: What's something about you that most YTers would be surprised to find out?
PM364: I don't really know, maybe that I drive a minivan?
JI: Is there anything cool about driving a minivan?
PM364: I like to tell people I can fit 7 people and enough beer to get everyone drunk. Although just fitting 7 people in relative comfort is pretty awesome. I can store stuff in it, take long trips with it, it's really a nice, utilitarian car. And I've slapped 6 bumper stickers on it, so it's rather noticeable.
JI: Do you have a parting shot to share with your fellow YTers?
PM364: Peace out and rock on!
