Funniest Comments of the Week
In a thread titled "I wanna be a moderator":
Isthiezak: How long has secretagent been a mod? If it was just recently, then perhaps that was taken into account.
Sammy: You're a mod and you're asking this? I think you need to start paying a bit more attention.
Isthiezak: I don't really know who secretagent is. I don't recall having any direct contact with him/her, so it doesn't stick out in my mind when he/she became a mod.
sander: "I don't really know who secretagent is." That's why the name is "secretagent": If you knew the name of this operative, Buddy would have to kill you.
Random thread:
redreine: Eat me. Srsly. You're like 12.
JoJo17: I am 14 and I will eat you with salad.
From an old, recently bumped link section link called "Is she jailbait?" in which you take a quiz and guess if girls are over 18:
spookyj: 6 out of 16. Well see ya guys! I hear the police knocking at the door.
In the news thread about Obama saying children should be bilingual:
heatherlw: Noldor, I don't know what kind of high school language teacher you had, but my two years of Spanish included making pinatas and watching Star Wars dubbed over in Spanish (but with English subtitles). I'm still waiting for the day when I'll need to know "Luke, yo soy tu papi!"
In a thread titled 'Need help naming my thesis':
PuddingCup: 'Tell Me a Story'. It's not elegant and beautiful, but it gets the point across.
thh: Well, if you go that route, I'd rather it be "Stop me if you've heard this one before."
Joke of the Week
The Irishman
An Irishman is sitting at the end of a bar. He sees a lamp at the end of the table. He walks down to it and rubs it....
Out pops a genie. It says, "I will give you three wishes."
The man thinks awhile. Finally he says, "I want a beer that never is empty."
With that, the genie makes a poof sound and on the bar is a bottle of beer. The Irishman starts drinking it and right before it is gone, it starts to refill. The genie asks about his next two wishes.
The man says, "I want two more of these."

JoeInterview's Member Feature
This week's interview features VictoryRider. This interview was conducted by amyla516 and travbowman.
JoeInterview: First off, how did you find YT?
VictoryRider: I found IAB first. I don't really remember how. I wanted to post comments, so I signed up. I noticed it linked to here when I signed up. I started checking it out too, and liked what I saw. After a little bit, I pretty much stopped going to IAB and just stayed here.
JI: What would you say is the biggest reason you keep coming back for more?
VR: Hmmm, I think at first it was habit/entertainment. Now, I've gotten to know some really great folks on here. I enjoy their thoughts and their company. Also, you learn a lot about people in general here, and different views on things. I'm not one to get into any debates, but I do read them, and like seeing both sides of things. Of course, it still has its entertainment value as well.
JI: What's the story behind your username?
VR: The short version: I ride a Victory motorcycle.
The long version: I was a Harley rider, and was looking for a bigger/touring bike. I was interested in the Roadking, but a friend of mine mentioned Victory to me. I had heard of them, and decided to check them out. They are an American made bike as well. Every review I read on them was really good, and the prices were comparable. I fell in love with the one I presently own. I bought it just a few months before I signed up on YT, and I thought it would be a pretty cool screen name. I use for my screen name at quite a few places now.
JI: Based on her screenname, can we assume that your wife rides as well?
VR: Yup, she just started about the time we signed up here. I got the Victory, so I we decided to keep the Harley for her. She took a rider safety course, and got her license. We don't have much in the way of sitters for the kids, so it's hard to find time to do any riding together. Hopefully that changes soon.
JI: How did you and HarleyGal meet?
VR: Now that's a tough one. We knew a lot of the same people, but somehow didn't know each other. I think we "officially" met when when I was in 11th grade and she was in 9th. Someone introduced us, and that's the last I saw of her for a long time. We didn't even remember that meeting until we were married or at the very least engaged.
We met again a few years later. She was 18/19 and I was 20/21. We were at a religious convention, and she came up to me to tell me that we were going to be in a particular training course together in a few weeks. At first I was like, "Yeah, whatever" (I didn't actually say that though). Then I got to thinking about it. She seemed very sweet and genuine. We spent much time together during that 2 week course, and things really blossomed from there.
JI: Do you guys talk about YT much offline?
VR: Ha! Good question. We do sometimes. We have a lot going on with the kids, so it's not as much as it probably would be. If something interesting is going on, or something funny, we do. Also, if someone mentions something about one of us in a thread, we'll usually tell each other as well. We were telling each other about new posters in Falc's YT poster thread as new ones would come up. Those were great!
JI: What's your secret to sustaining a long successful relationship?
VR: Well, it's several things I would say. We started out as friends, so that was a plus. I think something that stands out is that we were up front with each other right from the start. We can have honest and open communication about anything, and that is so important in having a lasting relationship. Also, we find now that we have children, that it's important that we make sure to have time for each other. Even the kids understand this. Even if it's just time to talk, we take it. The term we use with the kids is, "Mommy/Daddy time." Often it's at night and they're sleeping anyway, but if not, it's nice for them to understand that we still love and need some time for each other as well.
Little things are important as well. After 17 years, it's still important to say, "I love you." It's still important to give a loving touch or smile. It's still important to just hold hands while you're walking along. Etc. Common goals in life are pretty nice too. It's good to figure that out early on though. It could cause some conflict later if that's not the case.
I'm sure there's more, but I don't think you want a novel.
JI: You recently went on a roadtrip. Tell us what that was like.
VR: It was a blast. I planned it about 6 months ahead of time. It was a bike trip. Harley was supposed to come, but that didn't work out, so a friend of mine came along instead. That was just as well, because some of her family came into town the day after I left. Great timing! It was a five day 1200 mile trip. We stayed at campgrounds. The first one was absolutely beautiful! Every campsite was on the water. It was very peaceful, and the sunsets were magnificent. One evening, we watched some deer come down to the water and drink on the other side of the lake.
We took all back roads. That alone is very peaceful. On a bike, you're alone with your thoughts. You have a lot of time to just meditate and regroup mentally. It's like a kind of therapy to me. These trips are kind of cleansing in a way. I think the whole thing would be ruined by staying in a hotel or something like that. Camping out just enhances the experience. It's so peaceful by a fire at night, especially at the campground on the lake.
I try to do at least one of these trips a year. Sometimes, I'll do one pretty long one, and one shorter one. I'm thinking about my longest one ever for next year. It will be about 3000 miles round trip. We'll see what happens though. A lot can happen in a year.
JI: What are your thoughts on Sturgis?
VR: Ha! That's the trip I was referring to for next year. I've never been, but would love to go. I'll probably do a good bit of riding once I get there as well. I heard there's some nice riding there. The Black Hills are there, and Badlands National Park is there as well.
JI: What sort of music is getting the most spin from you lately?
VR: Hmm, it really all depends. I've always been one for variety. I might be playing mellow stuff one minute, then some hard stuff the next. For example, today I went from Psychostick to Sublime to Bad Religion to Bob Marley. Yesterday I was listening to a lot of older stuff, like Creedence, The Four Seasons, Loggins and Messina, Arlo Guthrie, etc. The day before that was a good bit of punk music along with some Louis Prima. I don't think there's just one kind that I could single out. The more I sit here and type, the more I think of that I've listened to recently. I guess it all just depends on what mood I'm in.
JI: What are you most looking forward to this summer?
VR: During the summer, I go to work, and subsequently leave work early. This affords me quite a bit of time with my kids since it's also summer vacation. I'm usually home by about 2:30, and have lots of time for them. We usually play out on the porch. Today was a good example. We filled the kiddie pool with water, and just had a blast out there. We ended up having an awesome water fight. I can't really think of anything else I'd rather be doing.
Except for my bike trips, I'm pretty much a home body.
JI: What's the best kids toy out there today?
VR: Me! Umm, I don't know really. My kids are more into books, drawing and coloring, and playing outside. They like their big wheels a lot. And you can never go wrong with a large cardboard box. A sandbox is good too. Really, just about anything that gets them to use their imagination and/or stimulate their mind is good. I find though, that the toy doesn't really matter if we take time to play with them.
JI: Tell us what an average day is like for someone in the roofing business.
VR: This time of year, very hot. I guess every day is a little different as far as work goes though. It depends on whether I'm on a new roof or a tear off. Some days I'm just working in smaller jobs. Some roofs are steep and are what we call "cut up", which just basically means they have a lot of hips valleys, etc. Others are pretty simple. I kind of like the harder ones better. They require more thought and are not so monotonous when you're nailing on.
People say I'm crazy, but I like what I do.
JI: What's the worst injury you've sustained from the job?
VR: I fell once. I landed on some steps and bruised my ribs. Nothing serious. It was about lunch time, so I figured that I would eat (and take some pain killers) while I was down there.
JI: What was the last good movie you saw?
VR: That's kind of tough. I only go to the movies once every year or two. I catch most on DVD, and even then it's pretty sparse. I saw Four Brothers recently, I liked that one. I saw Sahara a few months back, I liked that one pretty good too.
JI: Any final words of wisdom to share with your fellow YTers?
VR: I would say, just try to make a difference in someone else's life. Often it doesn't cost more than a little time and attention. They will never forget you for it.
