Joke of the Week

Sun Burn

A man passed out on the beach in Miami for four hours, and got a horrible sunburn, specifically to the front of his legs above his knees.

He went to the hospital, and was promptly admitted after being diagnosed with second-degree burns With his skin already starting to blister, and the severe pain he was in, the doctor prescribed continuous intravenous feeding with saline, electrolytes, a sedative, and a Viagra pill every four hours.

The nurse, who was rather astounded, asked, 'What good will Viagra do for him, Doctor?'

The doctor replied, 'It won't do anything for his condition, but it'll keep the sheets off his legs.'

JoeInterview's Member Feature

This week's interview features bgraham23. This interview was conducted by travbowman.

JoeInterview: First off, how did you find YT?

bgraham23: I wish I had a super sweet answer to that like "Well, one time I was in Del Mar on a drug run and hanging with these hookers when...," but I have the traditional one as I was led here through IAB. I had a job where I was constantly on the net several years ago and found IAB and ended up here. Sorry my story of how I ended up here wasn't as spicy as other YTers would have hoped.

JI: What would you say is the biggest reason you keep coming back for more?

BG23: I feel like I have gotten to actually know a little bit about some of the members of this site and always like coming back to see what they are into. There are also a lot of threads that make me laugh hard and that is always a good thing. I may have periods where I may not be on for a couple months but I will eventually find my way back.

JI: How would you say you've changed the most in the 6+ years you've been here?

BG23: That's a really tough question to answer. I would say the biggest change would be my temper. I used to get angry at small things but, over the last couple years, have just learned to let that go. I think that I have also gotten more dumb over the last 6 years as well. Haha. I have had many life experiences (good and bad) over the past 6 years that have definately helped to make me what I am today. In addition, 6 years ago, I had hair and now I just shave my head. I am hardcore like that.

JI: You list your occupation as an accountant. Can you go into detail as to what you do?

BG23: Sure, I work in public accounting. I do taxes for individuals, corporations, estates, trusts, partnerships, etc. I also do bookkeeping and payrolls. Basically, when it comes to accounting and tax, you name it, I do it. It keeps me very busy, especially during tax season where I worked everyday for 3 months and that was the suck. If any YTers ever have an issue with taxes, then talk to me. I will be more than happy to help. My occupation last year was over-the-road truck driver (which is more exciting to talk about than accounting). I am a jack of all trades.

JI: Does tax law in the US need an overhaul?

BG23: I would have to say yes on that, especially for individuals. There are too many forms, rules and exceptions. I have had nearly 100 hours in preparation time for a more complex individual return. Collecting tax shouldn't be as difficult as what all the people in Congress have made it to be. Tax returns used to be a very simple form, just a front and back of one page and that was for everyone with everything. Now there are just a crapton of schedules to fill out. It does keep me secure in a job though. I would much rather do a corporate return than an individual return because I think that corporate returns are easier to prepare.

JI: What's your best story from being a trucker?

BG23: Well, I was out on the road to make money so I never took any time to really stop and do things and don't have any kind of crazy, messed up story as a result. On story I can think of is one time I was hauling 2" plastic pipe. It was stacked very high on my trailer. I was driving down a 2 lane road and someone pulls out in front of me and I slam on the brakes. The pipe I was hauling shifted forward far enough to where if I would have turned the truck very hard, the pipe would have gotten into the back of the tractor. All I could think was "crap" when an idea hit me. My truck had 2 reverse gears, a low and a high. In the high reverse the truck would back up at over 20 mph. So I put the thing in high reverse, floored it and slammed on the brakes. As I had hoped, the pipe shifted back and all was well. It was not the smartest thing to do, but it worked that day. Haha.

JI: With gas prices heading where they are, how will it affect the trucking industry as we know it?

BG23: That's a good question. It will definately be interesting to see what's going to happen with the trucking industry in the next few years. I have seen several drivers that own their own truck have to hang it up lately due to fuel prices. It's really sad. When I was driving, I was putting between $400-$500 a day in the truck and fuel was under $3 a gallon. Now diesel is nearly $5 a gallon. This country pretty much functions off trucks. Pretty much everything we utilize was on a truck at some point. The increase in fuel prices has, which I am sure nearly everyone has noticed, caused almost everything else to increase in price as well. I think that a great deal of smaller trucking companies are going to start ceasing operations while the larger companies will probably be alright...for now. No one seems to be really looking into alternative fuels for heavy hauling either.

JI: What's living in West Virginia like?

BG23: It isn't anything like people imagine it to be. Most people wear shoes and we are not all inbred. If you go down the river in a canoe, you are probably not going to be raped. West Virginia is very rural. There isn't even 1 stop light in the entire county where I grew up. I live in Beckley which has a population of around 30,000 (people here call it the city). The main problem I have with WV is the job situation. In Whytheville, VA (an hour south) there are various factories which provide decent middle class jobs. There is nothing like that basically in all of WV as the tax system in this state is so business unfriendly that it is pathetic. As far as jobs, Beckley seems to have coal miners, retail/fast food jobs and jobs like mine. I think that WV is a decent place to live though. I move away but keep coming back to this state.

JI: Are you a Mountaineers football fan?

BG23: No. I was never able to get into any kind of team sports. I don't really know anything about football. I have been to a couple of WVU games, however, my main reason in going was to drink with some buds. So, if anyone ever wants to talk sports with me, all I can do is just nod my head and go "yeah."

JI: What sort of music is getting the most play from you lately?

BG23: I have always listened to the metal. Lately I have been listening to a lot of Judas Priest, Black Sabbath with Dio and Iron Maiden. I will always believe that Led Zeppelin are the greatest band ever. I used to listen to a lot of black metal but have gotten to where I don't care for it anymore, maybe I have just grown out of it. I have, strange as it may seem, found myself listening to some Jack Johnson lately as well.

JI: If someone is uninitiated and has to start with just one Led Zep album, which do you recommend they pick up?

BG23: Definately Physical Graffiti. It's a double album so it is lengthy and I feel it covers the spectrum of what Led Zeppelin could do musically. The track "In My Time of Dying" starts out a little blusey and then gets pretty heavy. "Custard Pie" is just a good time and the lyrics are pretty funny. "Down By the Seaside" is a really slow, mellow and relaxing tune. There is also, of course, "Kashmir." It's my favorite album of all time. I have 3 copies of it on vinyl, one on cassette tape and 2 on cd. A man always has to have a Physical Graffiti backup. A very interesting album that, in my opinion, never gets old. I think I am going to give it a spin after work today.

JI: What popular metal have you just never been able to get into?

BG23: One band I was never able to get into is Metallica. I grew up listening to metal such as Black Sabbath and Judas Priest but could never get into Metallica. I have seen them in concert a few times but have never owned an album of theirs. I think they have some good songs and are definately have a huge importance in metal history, just never could get into them. Even though I grew up in the 80's, I also could never get into hair metal. Guys dressed like chicks wiggling their money makers and playing crap songs was not for me. Someone gave me a Poison album for one of my birthdays years ago...I gave it to my cousin. It seemed to make her happy.

JI: If money was not a factor, where would you travel that you've never been?

BG23: Wow, there are a lot of places I would go. I think the first place I would go would be England and hopefully meet up with some YTers there. I would then want to ramble throughout Europe to check out the scene and keep it alive. I am actually contemplating taking a trip to England this year for my vacation If I go, you can expect to hear me cursing drivers for being on the wrong side of the road, haha. I have never been out of the United States and really want to travel abroad. I have been to 45 of the states with Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Alaska and Hawaii being the only ones I have not graced with my presence.

JI: Any desire to eventually hit Hawaii and Alaska?

BG23: Absolutely. I have always had a desire to visit Alaska since I was very little. I am not really much for the beach, (although I lived right on the beach during my time in FL) but I would love to check out Hawaii as well. I love going to new places and see what the people are like and what they do for fun there. Also, it is always funny when I venture north or west and speak to someone and they reply "You aren't from around here, are you?" due to my southern accent which I can never seem to rid myself of. Anyways, I definately want to visit all 50 states...only 5 more to go.

JI: Do you think the southern accent gets unfairly stereotyped?

BG23: I think so, however, I run into a lot of people that have thick southern accents and think to myself, "Crap, I hope I don't sound stupid like that when I speak." All in all, it's just an accent and I think in no way, shape, or form a direct reflection on one's intelligence. I suppose I should embrace my accent because I know I am never going to rid myself of it.

JI: You recently purchased a home. How does it feel?

BG23: I think I am basically in shock. I closed on the home yesterday (6/11/08) and have already moved a couple of itmes in. I plan on starting staying there this coming weekend. I am totally dreading cleaning the thing. I am very excited about having a housewarming party and hosting regular events like a poker night and crap like that. With interest rates as they are at present and with the real estate market in my town, it just didn't pay to rent any longer.

JI: What is your drink of choice during poker night?

BG23: Definately Guinness. I am trying to slack way off on my drinking though so perhaps a Mt. Dew? Haha. I wish that Guinness came in the form of a nonalcoholic brew.

JI: Who outside of your family do you respect the most?

BG23: Wow, that's a tough question. I had to think about that one a bit. I work with this guy named John, he puts in a ton of hours (the only one here that works more than me). He's a really good accountant and we work really well together. He has an insane work ethic.

JI: Do you think it's harder to find a strong work ethic in those 40 and younger in America today?

BG23: Seems to be the case. Seems as if people are slowly starting to not care anymore whenever I am in a place of business be it a fast food restaurant, store, or even professional offices. Most people that work in fast food restaurants here don't even greet you, they just point at you as a signal to take your order.

JI: Let's say you're sentenced to death row. What would your final meal be?

BG23: Oh crap, how could I eat at a time like that? I would be too busy crapping my pants to worry about a final meal. To really answer the qestion, though, I would want buffalo and lots of it.

JI: Excuse my ignorance, but are there a lot of ways that buffalo meat can be prepared?

BG23: Haha, excuse my ignorance if I don't know. I know nothing about cooking. I just know what tastes good and buffalo would be at the top of that list.

JI: Any final words of wisdom to share with your fellow YTers?

BG23: Final words of wisdom? Drink your school, stay in drugs and don't do milk! Wait, that doesn't seem right. Haha. Oh, and hello ladies!

My Life of White Collar Addictions and Disorders 4
Excerpt: When I’m alone with my thoughts I often force myself to relive specific parts of the last six years of my life. I do this partly with the intention of convincing myself to never go back, and partly to try to make myself feel guilty.
