I haven't seen it but here's your thread.

I'm in the cinema right now and there is absolutely nobody else here.

Empty screening! Yay!

I dunno if i can see this movie because benedict cumberbatch looks like what aliens think humans look like and looking at his face for two hours is my idea of a bad time

I heard that oscar isaac was originally in the run for doctor strange but couldn't sign on for a contract due to star wars

I like the cast.

I don't really know much about Doctor Strange which is probably a good thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing it but will wait for the DVD.

It's got a lot of the usual origin story hang ups but they're easy to get through thanks to the great cast and sense of humour.

It's great to look at. It doesn't water down the weird interdimensional stuff and it'll be cool to see that explored more in other films.

It didn't drag at all. Very breezy.

I was afraid Rachel MacAdams would be the weak link like Natalie Portman in Thor but she was honestly fine. Not like Portman at all. I hope she doesn't get unnecessarily forced into sequels. Her role is done.

Didn't end in a big fistfight which is refreshing.

Mads was a typical one-off kind of villain like Ronan or Malekith as expected but at least he isn't a fanatical raver. I think he only raised his voice once through the whole thing.

I like the theme music.

Oscar Isaac would have been a sh*tty Strange. Cumberbatch nails it.

So yeah. It was gud.

I still think Joachim Phoenix would have been better.

It was OK.

I feel they might have blown their load on Dormammu too soon. He can always come back, I guess. Forgot to mention, I liked the many deaths of Strange. Getting pinned upright like the priest in the omen was my favourite.

How was Natalie Portman the weak link in Thor?

because she has no characterization and also gives off a very 'damn my agent where's my paycheck' vibe in the film

I saw Doctor Strange in 3D today. Man, that was fantastic. I had been hoping they'd go full on Steve Ditko psychedelic, and I loved those moments especially. The big third act battle was a great subversion of the usual set pieces, and the confrontation with Dormammu was absolutely amazing.

All in all, a great movie that I'd love to see again.

it was okay. recycled plots points and very 'paint by numbers'. the humor was pretty awkward and 8 out of tens jokes fell flat ("...Beyonce!"). like not only were they doing a lot of the same beats as Iron Man but they even tried to give Strange Tony's humor and boy it does not work. because it isn't funny. it's cringeworthy
but holy balls the visuals are *stunning* and honestly make this worth seeing in 3D at the theater. for a mainstream Marvel film, the effects and trippiness are really damn cool. very exciting, very fun.
Breakfast Crunchwrap does great, despite the sloppy humor and uneven accent. Swinton and Mikkelsen do great too but they can do these roles in their sleep

i liked the characterization.
this is the only stand-alone Marvel film to set up a villain for the sequel, right?[ none of them do that. all the villains in these films get defeated and whoops that's it. except Loki, i guess? and maybe Hydra? but none of them take a good guy and make him the villain for the sequel. that's cool! i like that. good job movie.

anyways yeah it's mediocre except for the visuals and some of the characterization. but it's a Marvel movie. so if you're like me you go in with lowered expectations and still enjoy it because with the rare exception (Guardians, Iron Man, every Cap film), they're ALL kind of mediocre

You know who did do that?

Green Lantern

I thought the cgi was amazing, but Dr Strange wasn't likable enough.

His likability wasn't an issue for me. I know he started out as an asshole in the comics but I haven't read any DS yet so I don't know if his personality changed much as time went on.

This movie turned me off when I saw what they did to the ancient one. The ancient one is supposed to be this wise mystical old man living in a cave in the Himalayas. Not some chick doing kung fu moves.

Why do they always have to change the characters around?

In an interview Tilda Swinton said they wanted to avoid further stereotypes, which were not problematic when the comic was created. But they got dragged in the debate that started with Ghost in the Shell.

Sounds like "damn if you do, damn if you don't" type of situation.

Below average. Expected something more interesting.

They want it to do well in China since that's a big narket now so they changed the character from a Tibetan to Celtic so keep them happy.

At least I think that's it.

Really? A decades worth of this and you're still expecting something with substance?

Marvel make a fun product but they're awful shallow.

Honestly, the last Marvel film I actually liked was Iron Man, the first one.

I'm grateful these things exist since they guarantee I'll see something fun and colourful a couple times a year and christ knows that's a relief but they're cinematic marshmallows.

You say that and everyone thinks you're a DC fanboy..
27 days ago - Thursday 11/10/16 - 4:58:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
DC is the opposite extreme.

They're not fun at all and they try too hard to be the next Watchmen.
