I mean, they did show that to a degree, but it was a minor point in the story, I hear ya.

I picked up Ron's book and I'm looking forward to reading it before long.

Well, I don't know how much evidence I would even have to give in order to show you that cops are crooked, so whatever I guess. But life experience tells me they generally aren't to be trusted, so I don't. I won't be rude off the bat, but in every interaction, whether it's with me or just with someone else and I'm observing, they start from zero trust with me, period.

You generally dog people for citing "life experience", so it just rings kind of hypocritical, if I'm being honest.

At any rate, I'm done derailing the movie thread on this topic.

Life experience matters to an extent, and some of the things I'm speaking of aren't even my own personal experience.

But like I said, I don't even know how to go about convincing someone who's pro-cop that they don't deserve trust, so it's probably best to just cut this off.

I'm not pro-cop, as I already told you, but you've apparently made up your mind despite all evidence to the contrary.

Done.

I've got Moonlight to watch next from Netflix DVDs (yes, DVDs!).

I'll probably give that a watch this weekend.

I don't see how you can have a negative view of every person in a certain profession.....except lawyers.

lol

Let's move on from this topic.

Cops are pretty goofy people and a lot of them are geeks and nerds. You would not think these are cool guys to hang out with and you might have even made fun of their type in your younger days. Bad haircuts, unfit bodies, nerdy demeanor, bad clothes off duty, boring suburban lifestyle, etc.

I can understand that it might be a bit too much to be a best picture nom, but I wish hereditary had gotten in over some of these others

That was why I was a little surprised to see this from Spike Lee. He's not exactly known for shying away from racial issues no matter how uncomfortable it makes (white) people. It was a weird take from him. And I do get that the movie was a little more on the dark humor side than some of his earlier stuff, but that doesn't mean you have to make stuff up out of whole cloth to play cops as Big Heroes.

The thing about Spike Lee, is that he's a massive contrarian.

I saw him speak at a film festival, once. He was for everything you'd expect him to be against and vice versa just out of trolling, I suspect.

I’ve only seen two of his movies and I thought summer of sam was super boring, so I don’t have a ton of respect for him as a director

I like him as a director, tbh. But, I've seen the early stuff pretty much exclusively. KKKlansman looks like an interesting watch, and as it's been nominated, I will def have seen it by Oscar day.

I like Summer of Sam. True it was weak when it comes at "dramatic engine" (sorry, I don't know proper English expression) but it was a great depiction of the period.

As usual. Great actress.

finally saw Bohemian Rhapsody and it is bad

maybe one day we'll get a movie that's not only faithful and accurate to Freddie's story, but is also challenging and nuanced and doesn't feel like a big cartoonish karaoke party

there's so much about Freddie that is interesting and there's so many different stories to tell and questions to ask

but we got a pretty bland, revisionist history paint-by-numbers that was anchored by a really great performance and one great concert scene

(i LIKE big dumb colorful karaoke parties. i enjoy the Mamma Mia films. but this movie should not have felt like Mamma Mia)

Taylor and May controlled a lot of the story, apparently.

They couldn’t agree with Sacha Baron Cohen in Freddie ‘s depiction.
So he left.

I saw Lego Movie 2
It was excellent
As good as the first (almost) there are more songs and another excellent ending
