Yeah, his books are gross sometimes and that's because he writes people how they actually are.

I'm pretty sure her dad being a creep was in the book
my biggest problem with the movie was
making her a damsel in distress at the end even though she was the strongest one of the bunch

which is still a step up above a train being run on her

for sure
but I think it would have been better if it had been eddie since he was separated from the group by his crazy mom

I really enjoyed it. It's not my favourite but was a solid film, especially for the horror genre.

I haven't read the book but I really wish they ended the film by
the kids taking the deal and accepting that one of them would die in exchange for him going away. The weak acceptance that they can't kill him and the semi-neutral ending would have been fantastic IMO.

the book also shows them as adults, so that's why they split the movie into two parts

I'm not sure how I feel about part 2 though
the kids in this movie did such a great job and I'm not sure who they could get to play the adults to do just as well

i finally saw this and boy do i have a lot to say

finn wolfhard is the greatest child actor ive ever seen. the losers were fantastic.

as a child of sexual abuse, the scenes with bev and her father were really really upsetting but like. in a good way? idk hard to explain. i felt her pain but i also felt her win as she crashed the ceramic lid into his skull.

uh. boy there were some horrible effects in this though. people kept talking about the georgie scene like i was about to see some sh-t that would scar me and it was....laughably bad. like.... yikes. most of it was fine and when it crawled out of the fridge i was genuinely struck with horror but the scene where it crawls out of the projector screen in the garage looked like a ps3 cutscene.

i liked it a lot though and it makes me want to reread the book cause i havent read it since i was like 14

Her dad was physically abusive in the book, but

he definitely didn't molest her. There's a scene where her mother asks her if her father has ever "touched her" and Bev is just totally confused by what she means. The "I worry about you" stuff is clearly meant to imply that it COULD escalate to sexual abuse, but it's far more blatantly obvious in the film that he actually already IS sexually abusive.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this. There was a lot that was changed from the book, but I was mostly fine with those changes. It was never going to be true to the book - even with two movies, it's super-long, and some of it just doesn't translate well to screen. Like explaining the Deadlights and all that would be crazy and probably not make any sense to non-book readers. I think it was a pretty good balance of telling a coherent story, and including plenty of easter eggs for readers.
I did a re-read of the book (first time in over a decade), which I finished two days before seeing the movie, and I wasn't sorry to have done that at all. And one of the friends I saw it with had never read it or seen the miniseries, and they enjoyed the hell out of it. So I count that as a success, too.

i thought It was...okay. i liked the cast a lot. the kids were fantastic and had a lot of chemistry. Finn Wolfhard is gonna be a star. Skarsgard brought a lot to the role and was genuinely creepy. the Stand By Me / Goonies parts of the film were the best. really fun and humorous. the horror parts less so. if there was a flow chart for this film, the arrows would all lead to one box that says 'jump scare'. some really great, eerie scenes being built that ended up just going OOGA BOOGA! haha startled you! it got repetitive really quick i felt the studio fingerprints all over this thing. there's a much better film here somewhere but there were littles things i liked a lot. and it was exponentially better than the mini-series

i agree with everything here
