Check your local theatres, the short films nominated for Academy Awards are shown.

3 blocks: fiction, documentary, animation.

I went to see the live action shorts nominated at the Oscars.

God, the selection this year is way too intense.
First of all, I admire the acting in each and every one of them. It's on the superior side, and it was very demanding I guess, especially for the children. (there are several kids in major roles this year).

This said, you have to wonder what went through the mind of those who created some of these. Especially the one about the brutal murder of a 2 year old by two 10 year old boy (yes, you know which one). The short movie doesn't show the actual murder but the movie remains terrifying. And one thing I disagree with, is a picture showing the two 10 year old with the toddler and you can see the toddler crying. I'm sorry, but if you can make a 2 year old cry for a movie, he's probably not acting. That photograph was unnecessary, as a turn off.

The US movie "Skin" is way over the top for me, but again, I compliment the acting of the redneck family. I still don't see the point of the movie, though.

The Canadian "Marguerite" was good, but a bit too much aesthetic-prone, which is my pet peeve with French Canadian movies.

The other Canadian short was very good, although the ending is crushing.

The Spanish "Madre" one was my favorite. It's about a kid calling his mother because he can't find his father and he is alone on a beach. The building tension is excellent.

so, while most of the short selection is usually highly dramatic, there is usually a tension breaker, lighter movie among them (that never wins).

There is none this year. I'm curious to see which one will win. You can expect an uproar if the Irish movie wins.

i dont think i’ve ever seen a remake drastically miss the point as hard as it did

I watched Stan and Ollie, set in the early Fifties in Britain it didn't feature any Black people, undercover cops or raging flamboyant queens. The diversity centred on a fat comic and a not fat comic.

It wasn't in the movie but after Oliver Hardy retired he lost all his extra pounds and became quite unrecognizable

Watched Antman & the Wasp the other day. I thought it was garbage but could see how it could be a suitable, mindless comedy/action movie to entertain children.

it's not very good but it at least has Paul Rudd who makes it go down a lot easier

I don't like Paul Rudd! I feel like I'm supposed to like him, but I just don't.

I don't like Paul Rudd or Mark Ruffalo and for some reason, those two guys are in everything.

My two charitable things I said after watching Antman and the Wasp:

1. I'm glad Evangeline Lilly is still getting work.
2. I like the big Hello Kitty pez dispenser.

Does anyone like Mark Ruffalo? He doesn't belong in the same category as Paul Rudd!

i like mark ruffalo but not near enough as much as i like paul rudd

mark ruffalo is kind of a badass irl

Maybe I'm biased against Ruffalo because I went to school with a guy who resembles him and that guy was a self righteous twatsicle.
8 months ago - Saturday 2/16/19 - 9:49:09 AM EST (GMT-5)
oh but yeah both of the ant man movies are easily digestible garbage thats elevated by great performances from rudd, lilly, and douglas

the villain is a LITTLE bit better in the sequel (i.e. its not oh its the exact same thing as the hero but evil)

but they’re very very middling movies that aren’t anything past Not a Total Waste of Time

Oh I do.

Paul Rudd is fine, I guess. But I constantly have to think too hard to remember whether it's him or Jason Bateman in something, if I haven't seen it in a while.

Also, I've seen the first Ant-Man, and it was what I expected. It's fun, formulaic, not challenging, basically what I wanted out of a movie when I put it on.
Unfortunately I haven't been in that mood yet since the second one came to Netflix. I tried it the other night and turned it off after less than 20 minutes because I was just not paying attention.

Oh that's funny. Ron Livingston is sooooo so so iconically Rob from Swingers for me (that movie came out when I was a junior in HS and I LOVED IT) that I even had trouble separating him from the character the first time I saw Office Space lol. I won't ever confuse him with another actor, but I have definitely called him "Rob Livingston" quite a few times.
