Let the whining begin . . .

I can't wait to see this movie, it's gonna be so badass.
I'm gonna be quoting it for the rest of my life.

I can't wait. I hope it's awesome.

And I really hope Leslie Jones has the least amount of screen time.

Bill Murray gave it his stamp of approval.

I agree about her.
Her whole act is a rip off of Tracy Morgan

She is only funny when she hits on the Weekend Update guy. Everything else is so cringy.

i like the cast (minus Jones, who is really rough on SNL) and director a lot. reviews seem solid but i'm really not excited to see it at all. the original is such an amazing film that a reboot without the original cast just feels like a massive letdown and that's a hard handicap for the film to get over

everyone hoping it fails tho feels pretty gross to me because it seems to be coming less from a 'STOP BEING UNORIGINAL HACKS HOLLYWOOD' viewpoint and more of a 'no gurlz allowed!' viewpoint

i'm annoyed by its existence simply because i want more unique, creative ideas rather than retreads and nostalgia fetishes but i'm willing to give it a chance

I enjoy reboots. The more the better. Reboot everything.

Humans have been telling the same stories for centuries. I don't get why people are surprised that we continue to do so.

(and for the record, i am against *any* new Ghostbusters film. but if i had to have one, i'd want one with a primarily new cast and the old f-cks returning as the supporting cast. if only to give them a better sequel than Ghostbusters 2)

i get that, but they're often done really lazily. resting more on the IDEA of the original than exploring anything new or fun.

i feel like anyone espousing the former viewpoint is probably being accused of the second

that's a fair point, but when i speak of the second, i am thinking solely *of* the people saying HOLLYWOOD IS TOO FEMINIST YUCK and WOMEN RUINING MUH CHILDHOOD

Honestly the majority of the issues I have read from people have nothing to do with them being women.

And look at what happened to AVGN. Dude got roasted for making valid points.

yea, i'm not trying to suggest that EVERY negative review or whatever comes from a sexist place. being against reboots and resurrections of old franchises is a really valid thing. so is just finding a film to be not good
4 months ago - Tuesday 7/12/16 - 4:17:26 PM EST (GMT-5)
The thing is, while we've been telling the same stories, they tend to take new forms when done right, so Wolfman becomes American Werewolf in London. At least be bothered to give it a lick of paint.

I don't even think Ghostbusters is franchise material. I think it was one good film in the eighties when everything lined up just right. I don't care if the new one is all girls or all giraffes or if it tanks or becomes number one film of the year. I don't care.

Anyway. There's my opinion.

And if anyone is whining because it's a childhood thing then just watch the old one or don't see the new one? I look at it from the point of view of some girl seeing it and thinking "hey look, some lady ghostbusters".

I'm not attatched to much except maybe the first series of Doctor Who with Christopher Eccleston. I didn't see many Northern hero characters as a kid but then he came along and it was great that suddenly there was a cool one who talked like me. If that was remade somehow then it wouldn't really bother me because it's already made its impact on me and others and it isn't like it'd be scrubbed from the earth.

And it's nice to have an alternative.

Brilliant movie. I haven't seen it yet, but men need to step aside for once and let women have more lead roles in Hollywood.

So far reviews have been "well its not as horrible as everyone thought it would be. It's not very good though"

Those reviewers are sexist.

I just saw it, and I thought it was really good.
They balanced references and new ideas well.
Also, LJ was not overly annoying at all.
Two thumbs up.

It was very funny.

I think this is a three star effort. The new Ghostbusters themselves are full of potential but they're trapped in a generic effort. I wish it didn't keep referencing the old one and had more confidence to be it's own thing. Hoping the inevitable sequel pushes things forward. The villain was awful but the climax was alright. I liked seeing ghosts everywhere. Best use of Slimer ever. Some jokes like the 'suck it' thing went on too long. It was alright but frustrating at times.

Way better than I was thinking it would be.

Very funny

"Hoping the inevitable sequel pushes things forward"

Fortunately, that's no longer on the table.

This movie was exactly as horrible as I thought it would be.

Weak story, poor dialogue, unforgivable racial stereotypes, lazy writing, and special effects that looked as if they were left over from the last Scooby Doo movie.

Feig should be ashamed of himself.

Melissa McCarthy can take a bow though. Amazingly she managed, for once, to be only the second least funny person on set (step forward, Kristen Wiig).

The funniest thing about this movie was the box office numbers it generated.
