I'm still not sure if I want to see this.
I am not a fan of Amy Adams, but I loved Julia, so... |

i respect both actors. however, the problem i have is with what I call "The Ephron Universe" Nora Ephron tends to create implausible worlds of rustic, wry cuteness (if that makes sense) where dialogue is always self-indulgent, breakups are always amicable, and the main female character is always exhaustingly quirky (but likeable!)
Amy Adams has taken on some scarily similar mannerisms to Meg Ryan characters in this movie. It rings false to me |

I loved this movie because Stanley Tucci and Meryl Streep rock my world. I followed my opening day movie viewing with a trip to powells books to buy mastering. I made hollindase last night with a boiled artichoke and tonight Im making quail!! It's an amazing cookbook. We also downloaded the first disk of the French chef to watch.
As for the movie, when the husband leaves her it's not beleveable. It comes out of nowhere and it's not a heated argument. If only my fights with my husband were mild like that!! |

I thought this movie was really great, especially the story about Julia Child. Meryll Streep was awesome and there were a lot of really funny parts. Stanley Tucci is also excellent as her husband. Definitely a feel good movie as well.
Could have done with more Julia Child and less modern-day Julie story, but the Julie story was good, just not as good as the Julia story. |

I agree, the husband leaving part irked me, too, in how unrealistic it is.
Meryl Streep was appropriately mindblowing, and I was very impressed by Stanley Tucci. I hope he gets a supporting actor nod for it. |

I saw it, I loved it. Meryll was fabulous!! Altho, Amy's part of the movie was interesting (kind of), I found myself groaning when it was her turn on screne.
And I SWEAR I smelled rose perfume every time it was Meryll's turn onscrene. Anyone else, or am I just a little crazy.
And it made me want to make boeuf borguingnon! |

This one was super cute. I loved Julie (I thought the point was that she was being selfish and, in her own words, a bitch). Meryl Streep was great as Julia Child. I loved both the husbands too. Overall, just really sweet and a lot of fun. It totally made me want to rush home and cook. |

I realized there was a bit of a spoiler in my post...
I saw it today, it was SO good! I absolutely loved it. Meryl was amazing as always.
My only complaint was, I started to get tired of Julie...she became really annoying to me and kind of selfish, which I guess was the point but...it made me not want to see anymore of her. Also, I don't understand what people mean about the husband leaving her being unrealistic... he was gone, what? A couple days at the most? He had to get away. I completely saw it coming. Given the type of couple they were (cute, loving, never fought) I thought the argument they had was more than enough to warrant it.
Now I want to learn how to bone a duck! |

Tell me about it! Me and the husband kept making bondage jokes. One of them...the legs came untied. He called it, because he wanted "the slut". LOL |

amazing! bravo to you!
justin, MILLIONS of cookbooks at the library. I usually test drive a cookbook by checking it out first , and if it seems up my alley I sometimes buy it.

Finally got to see this one the other night, and really enjoyed the entire thing. Sure, Julia's scenes were more fun than Julie's, but I think that was the point. Plus, no one can touch Meryl's acting skills. She does so much without saying a word with a simple look, a gesture, a grin. Tucci was awesome as well, and I agree that he deserves consideration for best supporting actor nomination.
I didn't mind the Julie's husband leaving part. He was sick of her obsession, had been dropping hints for weeks, and she just never got 'em. He needed to get away for a bit (what, maybe a night or two?) and let her think things out. That seems realistic enough for me. |
