In all seriousness, It was just ok. La La Land should've won.

i strongly disagree!
i've never been so impressed with the academy, i was convinced it was going to have been too subtle and artsy for them

my most hated one was argo, an unbelievably corny lazy mendacious exercise in hollywood backpatting and by the numbers filmmaking and it makes me mad every time i think about how it got awards
19 days ago - Friday 11/3/17 - 3:20:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
although i love lotr, i think return of the king was very weak
the trilogy maybe deserves an oscar in general, but the individual film that deserved it was fellowship imo

yeah Moonlight is terrific

Argo is a fine Mainstream Hollywood film with a trash third act

I agree, Moonlight was beautiful. I'm not sure it cracks my top 5 best Best Pictures, but it was certainly MILES better than La-La Land. Talk about Hollywood back-patting.

I haven't seen quite all the Best Pictures, but these are some that I have, and have absolutely no interest in ever seeing again:

The Greatest Show on Earth (1952)
Gladiator (2000) (I know people love this. I just don't)
Shakespeare in Love (1998)
Argo (2012)

guys... you know why noldor doesn’t like moonlight

no sense in arguing with him there

hurt locker
gladiator
rocky
dances with wolves
braveheart

I don’t think all of these movies are bad for the most part
they just didn’t deserve to win over the other choices

except for dances with wolves
f-ck that overlong piece of garbage

everyone gets so hung up on the whole preachy racism is bad thing but i just like movies about lots of different people's storylines intersecting
19 days ago - Saturday 11/4/17 - 7:22:28 AM EST (GMT-5)

I enjoy historical fiction as much as the next person, but it irritates the piss out of me when the author (or screenwriter) gets basic facts wrong.

"Tobacco plantation in Virginia." In the 1500s. Ugh.

also for the record i watched the artist when i was 15 but i didnt hate it or even dislike it. i thought the concept was really cool and i thought they did some interesting things with it.

Why?

probably the same reason my white privileged roommate liked La La Land more than Moonlight.
Moonlight is a terrific film for people who either call themselves cinephiles or can connect to the story of a struggling lower class black man wrestling with his identity and the gender roles being forced on him

La La Land is a big musical with sweeping notes of loss and love and hope. it's much more accessible

Moonlight is a quiet character study about a gay black man

neither are bad films

i loved La La Land. i loved Moonlight

i just think Moonlight was slightly better because it was more daring and more important
and it's obvious why a white straight man like noldor wouldn't like Moonlight. it's not made for him

Crash
Million Dollar Baby
Moonlight
Dances with Wolves
The Artist

Slumdog Millionaire
LOTR
Titanic

There's so many wrongs on that list ... hard to choose. Here we go anyway:

The Sound of Music
Rocky
Titanic
Gladiator
Chicago

I'm afraid I have neither seen Moonlight nor Spotlight nor Birdman nor The Artist

Well, yeah, I guess if I were a black gay man it would have more of an impact on me.

There are no wrong or right answers on this thread. It's all subjective. Also, all these movies did win Best Picture, so they all have at least some merit to them.
