There was such a lot of hype about this one that I wasn't sure what to expect.
But I was positively surprised to see Bond getting back on rack after the not so great Quantum of solace. Well written and directed, a great cast and the darkest all around atmosphere in a Bond I can recall.
And I really didn't know M would die in the end!
I think Fiennes has a good chance to be a good substitude though

Oh, and I actually think Adele did a good job with her theme song as well.

i like all the cute throwbacks to previous bond films
i could have used a tad more action, but what i got was fab (especially the opening, oh man) and all in all it delivered
i'm also a big fan of all the new classic guys (new q etc)

Apparently Roger Moore thinks highly of this one. Link.

Eh. I'm bored of 'soul-searching Bond'. Fast cars, loose women and kick-ass fights is what I want.
+ Bardem, the sequence in the skyscraper, M, Bond being a bit sh*t, Adele theme tune sounded properly Shirley Bassey old school, Aston Martin, sexual ambiguity, the lack of gadgets
- Moneypenny storyline felt shoehorned, the end set piece, Kimodo dragons, whats-her-face bond girl's storyline. Some of the action was a bit dull/unoriginal. Fight on a train top/across the roofs have been done a million times before - sky scraper fight genuinely offered beautiful visuals

I actually found the 'Bond going back to his roots' idea quite adequate for the 50th anniversary edition.

YES to this.
I saw it with my mom; our whole family are Bond fanatics. We both loved the car, the incredible theme song (it makes my top 5 Bond film themes), and Javier's mad-genius classic villain.

Anybody else think that the whole "get shot, fall off a bridge into water, everyone thinks your dead but you're not really" had echoes of Jason Bourne, and "prepare the house against the massively superior enemy" had echoes of the A team?!

Javier Bardem played his role to absolute perfection, he is arguably the best Bond villian of all time.
I loved how there is a new M, Q and Miss Moneypenny. Bring on the next 50 years of Bond!

Not really. Mostly because those movies quoted from older sources as well.

how about every villain getting caught and turning out it was part of their plan that's in every movie these days?

Ok so it's just me then. Out of interest, what are the older sources?

I wasn't thinking of a particular movie but of the general idea of characters who are thought to have died 'returning from the dead'. Gandalf falling off the Bridge of Khazad-dûm comes to mind.
A big showdown in that 'my home is my castle' manner can be seen in a lot of Westerns and such (although I like Dissappears' mention of Home Alone even better )

the last act in Scotland was way too long.
It was ok. Not worth re watching.
I liked the deserted island, and the Macao Bond girl.
Didn't care much for the villain, or his story.

So much that I loved about this movie. Bardem was awesome, loved the transition from Dench to Fiennes, fantastic back story on Bond, the homages to older Bond films, and the Moneypenny addition.
