Has anyone seen the trailer for this?
I was looking forward to this film but I didn't particularly like the trailer. I don't like Tobey Maguire as Carraway and I hate the type of CGI Luhrmann always uses.
But nothing screams 1920's like a bit of autotuned Kanye West.

I would be excited if Baz Luhrman wasn't directing it, but right now I'm kind of worried.

He is either brilliant or really f*cking terrible.
There is no middle ground.

For some reason, the way the car at about 1:50 moved made me laugh. I'm guessing because it's horribly animated, and is going cartoonishly fast.

Granted, this isn't very 1920's either, but the show itself definitely is.

It's bluesy though so it's possibly 30's/40's which is closer (although it was in a rawer form to the later more popular version).

I can't do it. I didn't care for Marie Antoinette for that reason. And if Great Gatsby's got one of them, it'll be very hard for me to sit through. I made a deal with a friend of mine who wants to see this: I'll go see it with her, but if it's bad, we're walking out.

I'm excited for this! I read the book for english this year just a few months ago. I love DiCaprio and Maguire. And it's directed by the same guy who did Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! I think that will be cool with that!
I think this is going to be great! I'm excited for it!

Moulin Rouge was awful, but I do love WS R+J.

I thought WS R+J was horrible.
But I 'd Moulin Rouge.
I think this is going to go the R+J way...

I walked out of the theater on Moulin Rouge, it was so bad.
Can't say the same for any other movie I've ever seen.

A bunch of old bittys did the same when we went to see it.
The first couple of minutes are a bit crazy, I admit...especially on the big screen.

Probably because I've caught pieces of it on television since then and find everything I see retarded.

the whole thing was pretty stupid and unoriginal. It's like they took every popular love song and redid it with a whole bunch of cliché love scenes.
I hope this Gatsby flick isn't all that bad. Knowing Baz Luhrman, it will be. I haven't seen anything of his that I like.

Wow, I'd totally forgotten I spammed up this thread months and months ago.
Now I've read the book and I'm super excited to see this movie.
The only thing I'm worried about is the soundtrack.
