It figures *I* would be the one to have to add this movie.
We saw it this afternoon and thought it was great. Much debauchery, but Leonardo is truly excellent in it.
It's certainly not my favorite Leo or Scorsese movie, but it was a great time at the theater and utterly hilarious.
Leo on Quaaludes is priceless.

I watched it, I enjoyed it, but all the time I was distracted by the thought that someone should make a film in which DiCaprio plays Orson Welles. He really looked the part.
Maybe because Welles was the same sort of sales guy.

It should sweep the oscars but the oscar voters are jealous of leo's looks so they vote for crappier actors

Leo is well overdue for an Oscar, even though I think the Academy is just a giant circle jerk of morons.
It'd still be nice for him to get that recognition that he deserves.

Don't hold your breath, some member of the Academy heckled Scorcese before Q&A.
Movie might be too controversial.

I gave up on the Academy having any sense a long time ago, so don't worry, I don't expect anything.

i thought it wasn't their best collaboration.
the airplane blowing up while the coast guard parties with them? gimme a break! the movie dragged on and on and on, and had no moral. it seemed to me like it was scorcese's worst to date...i'm no prude, but did they need to show leo with a candle up his ass? i think not. this made me think less of leo as an actor(although he acted his ass off), to take such a raunchy part, and of scorcese because i know he can make a better, more tasteful film.
although the ludes scene was great!!!
just seemed like sex drugs sex drugs sex drugs sex drugs.
even when he went to prison, i was like...oh, good...a lesson...nope. skipped that. or when jonah goes to fetch the ludes from the sinking ship...i thought maybe his friend will die because of his bad ways...nope. they get rescued and get put on a boat full of dancing coast guards...wtf?

the editing on this sucked. it was too much story...and not enough story.

The thing about all that crazy sh*t happening, his friend not dying some awful, pointless death as like a moral lesson, etc. is...this is based on Jordan Belfort's actual life. So it's not like they could just switch things around at will.
And based on the way Scorsese wanted to do the film (no editing for content — a decision which just about got him an NC-17 rating), I don't see why anyone would go in expecting anything less than a frontal assault of debauchery and excess.
Anyway, I absolutely loved it. It's the most Scorsese-ish Scorsese film I've seen in a really long time. My mom was less enthusiastic, although not because of all the hookers and blow (she didn't like the way the financial stuff was explained/thought it didn't tell the story of his arrest in enough detail). And she did agree that it should get DiCaprio an Oscar nod.

This movie follows Belfort's book fairly closely from what I've seen in articles about the movie (haven't read Belfort's book and don't plan to), so if you have a problem with the story, go ahead and complain to Jordan Belfort about that.
I knew it would be crazy upon seeing the trailer. It was pretty obvious.
It's really a "guy's movie", so I'm not surprised some women don't like it.

Seeing this movie was a terrible experience.
Not because of the movie. The movie was okay, though over the top in just about every way imaginable.
No, it was terrible because I had seen nothing except for the "I'll give you my money next week" bit on the Daily Show, and my mother noticed that it had the highest rating of the movies playing in theaters. So she decided that we should see that one.
Is there anything more uncomfortable than getting a semi while sitting next to your mother?
