So... The stuff that you cannot stand anymore, that was overused and need to be left alone.

Examples:
1- A traitor among us.
2- The bad guy who actually plotted to get caught.

Add your own and discuss.

This to the millionth degree. This is the absolute worst, there can be nothing worse, and this ought to be the end of the thread because nothing else can compete.

in the same vein, fake out hero deaths and then it turns out they're alive

The plot twist I hate the most is: it was all just a dream!
5 months ago - Monday 5/29/17 - 4:04:41 AM EST (GMT-5)
when supernatural stuff goes down and the characters spend an annoying amount of time not believing it's real

when the character knows the truth and nobody believes them

Along the same lines...
Ignorant, dumb, self-centred parents that don't listen to their kids until it's too late.

Or they abuse the child's gift/power without realising they're putting the kid in more danger or killing them.

Also, dad going away for the weekend for work.
5 months ago - Monday 5/29/17 - 4:46:50 AM EST (GMT-5)
And dad/husband/boyfriend being generally dumb and plain.

I'll stop now.

definitely!

this is why dark knight rises is the worst of the nolan trilogy

another thing I was thinking about is during a fight with the protagonist, villain "loses" but then reveals he wasn't even using his full power

this is somewhat okay in video games where they might be trying to make a boss battle longer/more difficult, but it should never happen in movies

Lead male/female character fall in love
Usually after hating each other most of the movie/at least one of them isn't interested in the other at all (in non romcoms)

In horror films where someone sees a murder or something disturbing and instead of driving away faster or at least calling the police, stop and 'investigate'

Oh god, yes. The "let's not call the cops" needs to die for a while.

Yes.

I noticed that a lot of tv shows from the 60s had one episode where one of the characters falls into quicksand. It's like there was quicksand everywhere.

Why did (do?) comedy shows have to have super serious dramatic episodes
5 months ago - Monday 6/19/17 - 6:55:19 AM EST (GMT-5)
in superhero films/mainstream action films:

the villain WANTED to be captured it was part of their master plan
the villain has a faceless army of goons that are basically putties from Power Rangers
the third act revolves around a gigantic death beam that has to be shut off
the fate of the entire planet is always at stake

or the badass action hero is indestructible

it's what i appreciate about John Wick or The Raid. our hero in those films gets F-CKED THE F-CK UP. they're limping, beat to hell, gasping for breath, and with every fight their movements get more labored and calculated

I remember they did a lot of this in the 70s and 80s. They would always preface the show with "A very special episode of ....", "Viewer Discretion is Advised".

The ugly ducking who is suddenly beautiful and popular after a makeover.

also, they weren't even that ugly to begin with

After reading this thread, I realize why I actually enjoy things, and most people bitch moan and cry about them.

I am actually wondering how many movies a year Holllywood would still release if they really discarded any script featuring the apparent no-gos from this thread.
