It was a weird alternate history book about a pioneer town that used Victorian technology. It has mammoths and sabretooths. There was an evil gargoyle. The mayor was a miser. The innkeeper was a strict old woman. They used flintlocks and dueling pistols and rapiers against sabretooth tigers.

That sounds like a Terry Pratchett book, if I ever heard one.
That's just a guess though.
(Also, not an educated one)

Thanks, but it's not Terry Pratchett. It was kind of dark and creepy, and not very funny.

Inn of the White Rose? Something like that.
Probably not White Rose, since that was my friend's lame band back in the day.

LOL ok. Maybe something by Robert Stanek?
It doesn't sound familiar to me so I just googled some of those clues.
