So I ran out of patches two weeks ago and went about a day and a half before I couldn't take it.The patches had kept the urge to smoke down to a dull roar but when i quit them it was like jumping off a cliff. I stopped at a truck stop with full intentions of buying cigarettes. Standing in line I saw Mark Ten disposable e-cigarettes. I bought those instead. My sister had quit by vaping and two guys at the project used it sucessfuly too.

It sort of worked but I was still craving cigarettes like mad. Add that to the fact that the disposable was costing me more than cigarettes- I almost gave up. The Mark Ten needed a refill so I stopped at the nearest gas station. They didn't carry it. Once again I almost bought smokes but I said no, I'll drive out to the truck stop where I know I can get them. On the way there I stopped by Fallout Vapor to see if they had them.

Had you ever tried e-cigs before?

The guy said "We don't carry disposables but if you decide to keep vaping come back. We specialize in helping people get off cigarettes" I was expecting some kind of cliquish attitude but he was cool.

Anyway I went to the truck stop, got the cartridges and did that for a few days until I went to visit my kids. A friend had told me about a cheap vape pen he bought for $9. I bought that and a $4 bottle of juice. It kind of kept the cravings away but I still wanted a damn cigarette. I could barely taste anything and drawing on it was like trying to suck a golf ball through a garden hose. I wasn't happy but I was still fighting off smoking cigarettes so as I was about to run out of juice I stopped by Fallout. They have a device you can sample the flavors on and I found one I liked. The thing is it tasted great in the store on their tester but I could hardly taste anything on my device.

Nope

A nice mod and good juice is honestly the way to go. It's an upfront cost, and you'll have to keep buyin coils (I think they're like $6 for a 6pack amd that will take a long time go use). But it doesn't even compare to the gas station "vape" pens/e-cigs.

You'll get a good dose of nicotine and you can actually wean yourself off of it.

Doesn compare = is not gross. It's very pleasant.

I wentered back the next day and bought a real mod, the Kangertech K-Box Mini-C. $50 and $12 for the battery. It was worth it. The flavor was good and it made the vape better to where my nicotine withdraws went away.

Back up a bit. Cigarettes have 18 MG of nicotine. When I was using the cheap pen the guy suggested a 12mg juice. When I went back he said that I needed a 6 with my new mod. He was right The 12 juice in the new mod gave me a hell of a buzz. I'll admit I liked it too much. When I ran out of that and went to the 6 it was a satisfying level. More in line with trying to wean myself off nicotine. What I plan on doing is going from 6mg to 3 MG then mixing 3 and 0 to make some 1.5 then quitting nicotine completely. No scheduled timeline, just do what feels right. I smoked for 30 years, if it takes 6 months to get completely off nicotine so be it.

Let me correct: I tried a few hits from friends but I always coughed and hacked. I think it's because I quit smoking for nearly two months and healed a little bit is why I can vape now.

Good job, snarf!!

So I told the nurse at the VA and she gave me a stink eye. I told my mom and she got very upset. My ex said I'm afraid you'll be back on cigarettes soon.

This kind of pissed me off. Being the addict I am I said screw you guys. If you're going to act like that why try. So I bought a pack of Camels. After 61 day of no cigarettes I smoked one. And it tasted like f*cking sh*t. My friend Joe told me it wouldn't be the same because I quit for so long and he was right.

Giving up was the best thing I ever did because now I have no desire for cigarettes at all. Joe said I'd have to smoke for weeks before they tasted good again and I believe him. I bought the cigarettes at the start of my trip back home from seeing my kids and I never lit another one. They're sitting in the other room now and they'll stay there. I'm going to give them away on Monday.

So screwing up has made it easier for me to get off nicotine completely because now I don't want a damn cigarette.

So technically my quitting smoking starts over today but I'm not going to count until I'm off nicotine. That's the real goal I haven't went a day without nicotine in over 30 years.

I'll say it again giving up was probably the best thing I've ever done when it comes to getting off a nicotine. I really wasn't sure vaping would do it because I would always be tempted to smoke a cigarette again but damn that thing was nasty. I really don't want it now, I just want to get off the drug that I'm hooked on.

So now you understand the title. I feel like there's no going back to cigarettes from me I just flat did not enjoy it today. I thought I was going to drink some beers and enjoy some cigarettes and get back to quitting tomorrow but I guess I quit after 1.

That one was so nasty it broke the spell.

I don't think I'll have a problem not smoking now.

Quitting nicotine will still be hard but smoking itself I'm through with

That's great

I'm on day 18 cold turkey. I must say the SmokeFree app and Reddit community had helped me a lot.

I'm so sorry your family and friends weren't supportive. That really sucks so hard.

Vaping works wonders for a lot of people so that's a great way to go.

You are going to find it so much easier now to not have cigarette cravings. I think That they'll always be there, especially doing things you associated with smoking (for me driving, arguing with my mom and playing video games can trigger a random craving)

I'm tellin' ya, vaping with the good tech and juice is like quitting on easy mode. I am glad you are giving it a try.

Don't let the other people get to you, they don't realize how much it helps. Weaning is such a great method, and I'm not sure most people realize how you're in control with your nic levels.

All the smokers and former smokers I know have been supportive it's the non-smokers who don't understand

Yeah I loved the feeling of the 12 mg juice but I could tell I would stay hooked if I kept it there because I liked it so much that's why I went to 6mg juice like he suggested

A nice thing about my mod is I can change the wattage from 7 watts to 50 Watts.
1 month ago - Saturday 12/16/17 - 10:04:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
That way I can get the taste I want but not have it turned up so high it makes me cough
1 month ago - Saturday 12/16/17 - 10:06:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
Depending on the juice I put it somewhere between 25 to 33 Watts. My buddy who smokes a cigarette every few months tried it and liked it best on 15 watts. I like his idea of using it to wean myself by turning the wattage down slowly and getting used to a lower hit

My brother was a pack-a-day Camel Wide smoker for probably a good 15 years (he's the only person I've ever known besides Kepi who ever regularly smoked Wides).
He quit with the help of a good vape, and he still does use that (it's been ~3 years since his last real cigarette). He's sort of OK with the compromise of having the nicotine, but without all the tar and crap that comes with cigarettes.
And his vape juice smells good, too. It's just regular tobacco flavor, but it smells vaguely of maple syrup to the rest of us. My parents even let him use it in their house and cars. The only thing he doesn't do is vape around our sister's baby, just out of an abundance of caution.

Point being, there are worse things than vaping for a while as you're weaning off cigarettes. Sucks about the slip-up, but at least you're back on track now!

I was the exact same way Snargate! After a month and a half of not smoking I tried a cigarette and it was nasty. I will say I think it made a difference that I tried it sober, may have ignored the disgusting taste had I been drunk.

Non smokers really shouldn't be so dismissive. Eve if you do fall off the horse, so to speak, the important thing is that you quickly get back on.

You know, the nicotine level in that cigarette was a bit too high! It made me feel light headed and I had to really concentrate on my driving. I know it wouldn't take long before that is what I need again but the lower level of buzz from the vape is more pleaser now. That gives me hope that I can be satisfied when I go down to 3 mg and then 1.5 mg.

I also feel like quitting nicotine is a real possibility now. When I was on the patch I thought about smokes multiple times every day. I believe slipping up has cured me of that. I can't say it enough that cig was nasty. My taste buds have recovered so much I can't enjoy it.
