I took a seven week beginners pottery class and these are the results. Some pretty good, a couple that are absolutely horrible lol. One cup I messed up so bad I had to make it into a planter, a bowl that melted and became the planter holder, and one bowl that got too thin and totally wrinkled.
I'm taking the class again because I love this sort of thing and I want to eventually have my own studio or rent time in one.

Those are excellent! I actually really like the lopsided one in the final photo.

That lopsided one was my wrinkled bowl. I also need to get a handle on the dipping when putting the glaze on because I can totally see the areas where the layers overlapped.

I was going to post the insides of them but jesus' arse if YT isn't being slow as molasses. The yellow glaze has some cool blue sparkly bits up close.

Honestly though it will be great for soup because you could drink the broth from that indent.

In the last picture, is the middle mug handle-less or is it just turned around (I like handle-less mugs). Or is that the pot holder

by which I mean plant holder
4 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 3/24/16 - 2:25:33 AM EST (GMT-5)
I love the way you're doing handles on the mugs.

They all came out cool. I like the gloss on the purple.
4 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 3/24/16 - 2:27:22 AM EST (GMT-5)
It's the plant holder. There's totally a hole inside that thing.

I also didn't realize that you pulled the clay to make handles. I definitely need practice on that.
I like handleless mugs as well but since it's just a beginners class I figured I'd be okay with some mugs and handles.

The purple came out so nice! There were TONS more glazes but I just wanted simple things this time around. Gonna experiment more next time.

Dude, glaze choices are soooo hard. Simple stain? Gloss, matte, raku, crysteltex, flow...
Making stuff is so fun!

I had no idea that those last two were even things. They look cool though!

Thanks! I was the only guy in the class and one of the younger people there as well. Middle aged ladies are hilarious when they're all in a room together.

Gracias mi amiga. It's tons of fun and for just beginning it's not that difficult. Yet anyway lol.

Haha the teacher thought somebody else's handles were mine at first and she's all "um these are pretty bad you might not want to use them." The wheel took me a couple classes. I close my eyes to help center and it works well.

That's EXACTLY what I went in there wanting to make too but apparently the big things take a lot of effort so it's just little things for now. I have SO many plants and they all need new pots and I wanted them to all be the same so I figured I'd make 'em if I could.

Those look good! I like the shiny glazed ones. How good does it feel when you're working with the wheel and everything is going well? It seems like it would be SO satisfying.

It's super satisfying. Coning is extremely relaxing and then when I'm opening the pots it just feels right. I can't wait for my next class now lol.
