Does anyone know what the knotted triangles stand for/mean? As in, why are they on the coin in the first place?

Isn't it some Norse Mythology symbol? I'm not sure.

I see that in Celtic stuff all the time... I thought it was some sort of catholic/religious symbol.

I thought it was Celtic at first, too. But why would it be on a Norwegian coin?
