Today my son starts middle school (6th grade). He gets up an hour earlier than before and will be home twenty minutes before his sister.

When he came into the kitchen, he looked out the window and say the pink sky and said "I've never seen..." "A sunrise? Wait until winter, it won't be light until after you are on the bus."

He's a bit nervous, but my daughter seemed more nervous this morning and she missed her brother at breakfast. Mom, of course, is a wreck.

I don't do many journals on the kids any more, because he could join this place in a year and why give his future haters ammunition? But today is a special day, a stepping stone in life.

He'll be home in about four hours...I will still be at work. Wonder who will call him first, me or my wife.

Middle school didn't start for me until 7th grade.

Hm. 6th grade is still elementary school around here.
And I'm at school before the Sun comes up every day in winter, I hate it.

Congrats to him, middle school was the best time of my life so far.

When I was in school it went from 7-9. Here it goes from 6-8 and the high school has 9-12. What makes it worse is they are all on the same bus (6-12) As my neighbor said to me "that is where the real education beings"

And Pros, I hated that range of grades, but he has a lot more self confidence than I did at his age.

my town didnt have middle schools. there were elementary schools that had k-8 grades and then the highschools.

6th grade was the year my family moved across town and I had to start a new school. My cousin was in my class and liked telling everyone about all the embarassing things I did. but atleast we lived close enough that I didnt have to ride the bus anymore....

That would really suck, paper. I would have killed the cousin.

And yeah, I always hated riding the bus. But we're so rural, my kids will never going to get away from it.

sixth grade was the beginning of my rebellion.

Middle school wasn't a big deal for me since I started at a private school in 5th grade that was Pre-K through 8th grade.

And lucky for me there were plenty of other kids that hadn't been born and bred at Our Lady of Lourdes who enrolled during 5th grade.
5 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 8/27/08 - 11:55:43 AM EST (GMT-5)
thats how it was at the first school.

it was like they built the school as far away from town as possible...lol. everyone had to ride the bus.

but then the second school i went to was built right in the middle of our neighborhood...I think they had one bus to get the kids who lived just on the outside of our neighborhood.

In the Catholic school I went to for one quarter of one year, middle school does start in 6th grade. I didn't like that, I was very used to K-6, 7 and 8, 9-12.

I'm gonna need a special "What I Learned Today On YT" thread.

I try to make journals on days I think Thh is going to make those threads.
I also desperately want to be interviewed/be member of the week

I want to be noticed.

I was MOTW, and I was so excited.

People have actually requested that I be interviewed, so I'm hoping that means it'll happen.

And I ALWAYS want to be in thh's thread.

I got three referrals in one day from the same teacher for chewing gum.

The next year I got a referral for telling a teacher that he "didn't know his ass from a hole n the ground" (that teacher ended up being a child molester and I knew, but nobody believed me)

and in 8th grade I got drunk for the first time.

So, thh, good luck, I really hope your boy is better than me.

crunchy, that is good having a big influx of new kids. This middle school brings five elementary schools together, so plenty of new kids to learn to love and hate.

paper, I walked to school from 4-6, but I think I rode the bus everywhere else I lived. Walking home in the rain helped build character, I think.

pros, why only a 1/4 year in catholic school? That must have been a rough change.

red, I haven't done those threads in forever either.

I was MOTW and missed it.

It took six years to be inteviewed, so dont hold your breath

Hope your son has a good time at junior high.
I always hated it. I found a lot of the other kids to be complete idiots. But I was nerdy and just didn't like my class time disturbed.

Haha, I totally feel the same, Proser.
I feel so bad I haven't been MOTW yet.

my parents thought I was above the public school system, or something. They thought I'd get a better education at a private school. So they paid a few thousand dollars so I could wear a uniform and get an inferior education to that of public school.

And everyone there was snobby and I didn't have any friends.

I got MOTW and interviewed before my first anniversary. I guess it has all been downhill since then.

Yeah, my son gets praise for being courteous to everyone. He only argues with me.

Just wait, in a few years time people will be telling him how mature and all around awesome he is for his age, and that he must have amazing parents.

Middle school was lame

Thanks, Sa-chan. 8th grade was one of the worst years of my life. Thankfully that is still a couple years away for him.

Pros, that sucks. Something similar happened to my half brother when he went to a "gifted" school. Everyone else was a snob and because he didn;t have a ton of money, they ,ade his life hell.
