Why is it that all the sh*t that I enjoy is actually no fun at all?

Seriously? Why can't I just sit back and have fun? I mean, I do stuff that's like... interesting to me or that's entertaining or that's relaxing... But I just don't know how to f*ckin' party or rock the f*ck out anymore. I used to do that sh*t like it was my f*ckin' job... And it's not like "Oh, I'm over that and I don't need to have fun anymore", it's more like... "I don't know where fun is anymore, but it's not F*CKING HERE!"

It's driving me nuts because it's keeping me from going to work refreshed and it just makes things feel so... Ungodly drudgerous.

You don't have any fun at all anymore? You sound like me.

You need a holiday, and not some dinky "I'm going to go to some hotel somewhere out of town for a week." deal.
Actually do something proper. Something you want to do. Plan it around something, like a band touring. Go to the most bitching concert they're holding, or even a music festival, and take the extra time to do some other sh*t too.

Rock out knowing you don't HAVE to get up and go to work refreshed the next day.

I can firmly and honestly say that I have no clue how to have fun.
7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:18:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
are you depressed?
7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:20:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
Maybe your idea of fun is different now?
7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:20:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
See, the thing is that I've HATED every concert I've seen in the past 2 years, even though I can rightfully admit that they all rocked my f*ckin' face in.

Hell, even Dave and Busters has been the complete dulldroms.

And it's like... Honestly, the people that I'm around aren't into that and I think they wouldn't wanna go... And half of having fun is being in with the right crowd... And my crowd just wouldn't be down for rocking a place proper. It'd confuse the everloving sh*t out of them.

Sounds like you need new friends.

I eb in and out of depression, but even when I'm not depressed I'm totally frustrated trying to have REAL fun. I just feel so... on the fringe of everything and I used to be in the middle of f*ckin' EVERYTHING that I did.

They're the people I'm around the most, really. And they're not bad... They just aren't into rocking sh*t proper, and dancing for fun is, quite frankly, beyond them.

Speaking as someone who's about to go from one major transition to another (military to civilian), I've found that there's no time to have fun anymore.

I don't mean to be simplistic, but there's too much sh*t to do to have fun.

7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:27:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
I stand behind my previous statement. New friends doesn't mean no old friends... just find somebody else to relate to (which in itself can be fun, even if it doesn't work)

Kepi, I was about your age when my perception of what fun is changed. Could be you are moving into another stage of your life.
7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:29:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, my life is NOT that hectic. I just don't know what fun is anymore.
7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:30:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
It SOUNDS like it's quite the opposite, tulip. Your friends have gotten to serious while you've retained that partying spirit... or am I wrong?
7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:33:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
No... It's just that I'm very post college... And we all are. And even the college friends I see on a semi-regular basis are all struggling with the same f*ckin' thing "where is fun?" And it's like... Everything that's available to us is SOOOOOO over done.
7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:47:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
What do you mean "Everything that's available to us"... Sounds like there's something out there you can't reach that's shadowing what you already have.
7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:52:15 PM EST (GMT-5)
I mean it's like this... With all the sh*t that's out there... With the just... Absolute catalogue of entertainment and pass times, there is absolutely NOTHING out there that isn't overcrowded, frustrating, and usually doesn't have a long line of stupid people just waiting to do something incredibly stupid that will just make everyone uncomfortable enough to want to leave.

It f*ckin' KILLS me that every f*ckin' show I go to I just can't enjoy because of too many assh*les that just make having a good time way too difficult.

7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:55:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
Every time I try to party like I used to, I can't do it anymore. I've just come to accept that I've become and old fogey. It's not so bad, really.

Asking as someone who's 4 years younger than you, and hasn't had much fun in the last few years, were there less of them there, or did you just not notice?

I'm getting ready to move back to a major city in the midwest, and I assume I'm going to be bored out of my mind, but I get really testy when a lot of the dregs of society are around.

7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 8:58:23 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think having a good time is a lot harder now, too. But to me that comes from too much concern over covering your ass.
When I was younger (and I was a kid, it would have been nice to be an adult I'd guess) you could do a hell of a lot more than you can now because it was assumed that sh*t like minor injuries or illness or discomfort were just facts of life. You accepted that sh*t and moved on.

Now you can't hold a decent party without getting everyone to sign a waiver and witness the person next to them.

I'm not talking about rocking it like I used to... Just rocking it to some certain extent.

But really, I'd like, for once, to enjoy a band that I'm going to see WITHOUT getting kicked in the face or suspending someones bodyweight in the air via their ass on my head, or without having some skinhead f*ck show up drunk as piss and f*ckin' try to "get hyped for the show" around me...

And conversely, I'd also like to be able to hit the dance floor and to be ABLE to go with other people and to be ABLE to hit the floor and not have people glower at me disapprovingly when I dance with complete strangers like I'm going to go to f*cking bed with them.

Gah, the club scene sucks major balls. Nothing but a bunch of oversexed, underaged, drunk kids with no purpose in life. Give me a nice, quiet restaurant over those noisy sh*tholes.

I'm not really one for concerts. The only one that I've been to that really rocked was Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Good music and quite a variety of age groups.

7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 9:05:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Oh, Kepi. Do they really do that weird kung fu stuff that you see in videos of concerts?
7 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Monday 5/28/07 - 9:09:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Depends on what kind of "kung fu" stuff you're talking about.

Like if you're watching actual live footage (and not a produced video) chances are, yes... Especially at hardcore shows. It used to be that that was strictly a MD and north thing, with the south being a tad more lacking in etiquette but without the dangerous moves... So like, they wouldn't spin kick you in the face, but they wouldn't pick you up once you fell, either.

Now it's just an assh*le parade and not many people are using the good old fashioned don't f*ckin' hurt people and just have fun moves anymore...

And when it bleeds over to the ska scene, it's like kids just forgot how to f*ckin' skank, and the old school sh*t that I used to do at hardcore shows is what you do at ska shows now...

It's really frustrating, because when I see Bane, I wanna rock the pit with the sh*t that's common at ska shows, and when at ska shows I actually just want to dance.
