I have make a grand total of $96 the last two days. I had been averaging $100 a day each week, but business is really slow. I don't want to quit but I need more security. My son is 18 months old and my wife is 2 months pregnant. Enough whining. I'm going to have a bowl of granola and listen to Pink Floyd. Again. Ask me anything. I don't feel like sleeping yet.

You want to drive a taxi in England. Those guys are criminals, the amount of money they make! They charge around $15/$30 for a 12 minute journey.

That was meant to be £15/$30.

Do you meet interesting people while driving a taxi? Or do you just meet a bunch of weirdo's?

about 10% weirdos, 20% old people, 30% drunks 40% people who can't afford a car so they either ride the bus or take a taxi.

Atleast you don't have to look at the same people everyday!

arcadium, the meter starts at $2.00 for the first 1/5 mile then $0.30 for every 1/5th mile after that. $1.50 a mile. Plus $0.30 a minute if I have to wait.

Do you ever get scared? of the customers I mean?

There are some people I see on a regular basis. I give out cards with my cell phone number, so people call me directly, I don't have to rely on dispatch for everything. I have this one college guy who I drive to the bars every weekend. Another one is a waiter who takes tips to his ex wife each night to pay child support.

That's cheaper than here!

Once, my train home was cancelled (20 minute journey), so the train company paid for a cab, and it cost about $125.

As for people taking the cab because they can't afford a car. I'd only use a cab if I won the lottery or if someone else paid for it

Every once in a while something doesn't feel right. One time I took a call to the south side and the guy was standing outside talking on his cell phone and wouldn't get in the cab. After about 10 minutes, he walked around to my window and demanded that I start my meter running. When he saw it start, he threw $6.00 in the window and get the fork out of here I don't need a GD cab. Don't ask why this freaked me out, but it did.

The bigest fare I have had so far(i'v been driving for a month) was $49.80. I drovee him to Oakland city, about 30 miles away. The guy didn't tip, but for $50.00 I'm not complaining about no tip.

I had one guy who I swear had multiple personality disorder. He had 3 or 4 distinct voices, and 2 of them were arguing with each other.

did ya freak out?
15 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Thursday 4/14/05 - 9:48:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
Not really. He liked me. He was drunk and mad at himself mostly. The main personality was very civil. He had me drive him all over the city for an hour and ended up paying $35.00. What surprised me was that his home was in a very nice part of town. I watched him use a key to get in- I didn't to be dropping of some random nut job at a strangers house at 4:30 in the morning.
